Signs of an ear infection?

What are the signs of an ear infection?

Past couple of days just inside my ear has been painful. Its sore if my ear gets bumped and i cant sleep on that side.
There is no discharge, just sore.

Any ideas?

Also can i get anything over the counter for it? i wont get an appointment for my docs till mon prob at the earliest and i dont really fancy having a sore ear over the weekend.

Might be blocked up, try audiclean to clear it. My OH gets painfull ears here and there from hard wax stuck and this works really well.
