I feel your pain, my overdraft is massive at the mo, but over half of it it charges alone, it really upset me when I rang last month to sort it all out. The basically said if I can't pay off more than £100 a month - ie they reduce my overdraft limit by £100 and I don't go over my limit that month, then they'll keep charging me over £75-80 a month...how can that be justified, if I couldn't pay off more than £100, then where do they think I can afford that much, plus the interest etc?!?

It's really not fair, and making the debt situation in this country twice as bad imho!

I agree. I suppose it's our own fault for spending money we didn't have but if we don't have money to clear our overdraft how we gonna have money to clear it AND pay charges... madness.

Luckily I can JUST pay my £100 a month off, if I'm very very careful with money, and pull a few overtime shifts. I'm with HSBC and I really cannot be bothered with the pain of switching as all my debts are with them, and they really are an arse!

As soon as the debts are gone it's barclays here I come!

Why barclays? We're with hsbc, they've been 'ok'. I just wonder, cause we'll change to better banks too x

It'll make things a lot easier as our joint account is with them, and I forget all my different banking numbers and whatnot, if it's all under one roof it's far easier!

I've been with HSBC for 10 years now though! It's scary thinking about moving!

ah right, we have a joint acc with hsbc, and only really use that. Everything comes out of it, it is much easier!

can i sling in too, 2 debts not sure of exact figures, but WILL post them tomorrow, adds upto about £13000.

Did get letter with 10% discount if we set up DD ayments during Jan.

All our debts are due to HSBC, overdratfs, credit cards then we took their advice to consilidate the debtd, but the credit card took the better of us again (tis now well and truely chopped up). Now bank with RBS, and they have been fantastic.

Hiya! If you don't mind I would love to join in too! I really need to kick my debt. It is really weighing me down and affecting my quality of life.

At the moment I have:
visa card
mastercard
car loan
personal loan
mortgage.

I was always sensible with money until I got the house. Then after about 2years of being sensible I went a bit nutty and started overspending.

My aim is to:
Save up E700, then tackle the personal loan. My car loan is due to be paid off in October I think. Between those 2 that should free up over E300 a month so I will try bump up the savings then to E1000. Then tackle into one of the credit cards. Once one is paid off I will bring the savings up to E1500 then head for card number 2. Once that is paid off I will try get savings up to E2000.

I'm looking forward to being debt free because it is something that really stresses me out and I feel so disappointed in myself for letting myself get so snowed under.

Can I join?

I only have a debt of £900 on a visa cred card.

But ive never had debt before i always was proud of the fact i didnt owe anything.

I also have a Next acc with £900 limit and littlewoods with £750 limit .. i havent actually got debt on these just got them to boost my cred rating, have used them twice and paid of in full both times. But yeh not gonna go wooooooooooooooooooooo i got loads of money to spend and then thats that another massive debt to get rid of, lol.

Lol so yeh just the Visa card - only reason its got that much is because at xmas i knew my family where getting me lots of big presents because id had skye etc they where big things like playpens for her .. so i got them all expensive presents too.

Lessons been learned though never get presents on credit again.
