It's an incentive that the government gives to new teachers. If you complete and pass your first years teaching, and enter into your second in a state school then they give you a golden hello at the start of the second year. Some subjects don't get them, but he's a physics teacher....and they are desperate haha. It's £5,000 before tax, and around £4,000 after tax.

Although OH suggested we continue to pay may dad off as we are £50 or so a month (it's interest free and my dad isn't rushing us) and we keep the £4,000 towards a wedding....hmmm, it is a thought!

I'd love to be a debt slasher but I don't think we can do it. Debts are mounting up at the min! Don't have too much (about £1000) but i HATE being in debt with a passion. But its probably gonna get worse as we need a new car

You can try amy! Even paying off little bits of your debt helps! Making cut backs can save money which in turn you can use to pay off debt! Good luck Hun x

Oh Linzi don't cry sweetheart, you've done the hardest part, admitting that there's a problem that needs to be solved. Onwards and upwards from here on!

We're all here for ya!

Thanks hun

The thing that takes the mick is that the credit card debt is from our honeymoon (dunno if you read about it, theres a thread in GS) before then we were pretty much debt free abart from my loan which ends in 11 months and counting! I wouldnt be bothered about paying the money back if we'd enjoyed it but I just feel like Im paying for soemthing that was a complete and utter disaster & I begrudge paying it iykwim. So I haven't been apart from minimum payments.

Its getting sorted this year tho it was one of my many resolutions.

Hope you're doing ok though hun, haven't seen you online for a while

x

Bank charges should be made illegal

I went over my arranged overdraft by £6 this month for a total of 7 days They charge £5 a day so that's £35 and my overdraft interest is another £30 so £65 in bank charges. How the hell do they expect people to get out of debt?! Quite upset really.
