Housing benefit - No. of bedrooms.

Do you lose entitlement if you have more bedrooms than they say you need? Or do you just get less?

Im not 100% sure. I think theyll pay you what you are entitled to for the number of occupants, but you may have to pay the extra, if the rent is higher than what they say you are entitled to x

WSS. You'll get the amount your entitled to, but you have to sub the rest. But they don't always pay the amount your entitled to as thats a max amount not the set amount if that makes sense?

What the others said. They give you so much depending on other income then you have to add the rest yourself if your rent is more than what they give you

I went on entitledto, and got quite a shock at what we're entitled to, but then I read on the housing benefit site that you're only allowed a certain number of bedrooms. I don't understand

So the number of bedrooms you're entitled to doesn't matter?

If you're on income support, you'll get the full local housing allowance. Since I presume there are three of you, your BF and you are allowed one room and Caitlyn one. That means you're allowed two bedrooms, so you'll get paid the weekly rate for a 2 bed property (£103 a week where I am). They don't take anything off you, but they don't cover the whole amount if its more.

Nope no IS, and our income isn't low either. We don't get the full amount at all, not even close but it does say we get more than the nothing we thought we could apply for..

So we can tell them we have a 3 bed, we're entitled to a 2 bed, and still be entitled to the money?

Yep We have a three bed, and are only entitled to a 2, but we still get HB. It doesn't matter if you had a 10 bed, if you're entitled you're entitled regardless
