Maternity Pay

Hi

My employer is going to pay me 10 weeks maternity pay at full pay. I am aware that you are entitled to 6 weeks maternity pay at 90% of your earnings. Would I receive the 10 weeks maternity pay at full pay and then the 6 weeks at 90% and then SMP thereafter? Or would it work whereby the 6 weeks would be included within the 10 full pay?

I work for a small company so no HR to ask!

Any help appreciated!

Thanks

have a look at this website.. it may help you!

10 weeks full pay is very generous!! I think you'll prob go on to SMP after that rather than the 90% but don't quote me!!! If you had 10 weeks full and 6 weeks 90% it would almost be 4 months full pay and it would cost your employer a lot!!!

Perhaps speak to the CAB or see what's in your contract, there should be a maternity clause!

good luck

You will not get 10 weeks full pay and then 6 weeks at 90%. What your employer is doing is topping up the SMP with extra so that you get the equivalent of full pay for those 10 weeks. Then you will go onto the SMP rate of 123 a week, until you return to work. Your employer claims most of the SMP element back from the govt, so they will only really be out of pocket for the top up they give to you and what they have to pay your replacement.

Thanks for that info. I didn't think that I would get both of them thought it would be too good to be true!!!! believe it or not I don't have a contract! worked for the company for 7 years and they have never had anyone pregnant so its all new for them too! my employer will only have to make up the extra 10% for the 10 weeks not too bothered about that as they have had bloody good service from me for the last 7 years!! lol!
