It means that by the time you are 25 weeks pregnant, you should have been employed by your employer for 26 weeks (ie the week before your last period more or less!). It also means that if you left your job after the 25th week (resigned), they would have to pay your SMP.

I got confused over this! I seen a website that explained it well...

Find the sunday before your due date...
Go back 15 weeks from that sunday (this is your qualifying week)

If you have been working 26 weeks up to that qualifying week, you are entitled to maternity pay

My baby is due 16th May and have been told i will need to work till at least middle of April to qualify for smp - i stared working for my employer middle July so from reading what you have said wont have to work that late?

(by the way am very aware fell pregnant very soon after starting new job not 100% intentional been off birth control for approx 3 years just fell at bad time - VERY happy though)

I have been told i do qualify just a little confused as to the earliest i can start my leave from. I work as a nanny so job not too strenuous just long hours 7.30-6.30 plus 20-30 min drive on that either way and exhausted now at 14-15 weeks so no idea how i will cope 24 weeks onwards.

when you are 15 weeks pregnant you need to have worked for your employer for 26 weeks therefore you need to have been there for 11 weeks when you got pregnant

you qualify for maternity pay but i think their talking about the earliest you can go on maternity leave which is 29 weeks

by my calculations you should be allowed to go on maternity leave from mid march not april

Mid March sounds perfect!

I actually know that the family are planning to move end March but they are not telling me think they maybe hoping i will quit. When found out though perfect they move and i start my maternity just decide partway through my maternity that i won't be going back as they too far away - a little sneaky i know but can't afford to quit before hand.
