Thumbsucking whilst weaning/finger foods..

Aaarghh it's driving me mad

Anyone else with a thumbsucker finding it hard to introduce finger foods or even BLW?

Everytime I give him something to hold, his thumb manages to wiggle it's way in whilst he's trying to put the food in his mouth and he gets distracted. I try to use the other hand but his "thumb" hand seems to be the leading hand for everything.

Even spoonfeeding is a nightmare as I give him a spoonful, he swallows, pops the thumb back in for a minute and then takes it out again and opens his mouth as if to say "ready!" but we end up with food smeared all over him cos of the constant thumb movement.

I've tried holding his hand but then it's a pain trying to get a spoonful out of a pot of yoghurt or something like that with one hand.

LO did that too, although he wasn't as bad, i just use to take his thumb out! It was more when he was feeding himself finger foods than anything lol. But now he doesn't really do it all that much. Only sometimes when he's finished the bit of food he was eating and then quickly realises there's no more food in his hand and gets back to finding more.

My LO used to do this when we started weaning. We're TW. She finally stopped after a few weeks but now that we're really pushing finger food she's started doing it again. I'm not sure if she's doing it for comfort since we're trying something new or if she's trying to feel the food.
