Weaning a baby with milk allergy-help please

Im new to weaning,my lil man is 6 months old and has a has cma.
We are waiting to see the hospital to get some advice on foods etc.Been waiting 2 months!
Im still breastfeeding but have been given nutramigen to use in his foods and cooking but he wont even touch it,it tastes awful.Ive been using oat milk in his food and im hoping thats ok?

Atm im currently just giving vegetable and fruit purees and baby rice with either breastmilk or oatmilk. The hv told me to keep trying with the nutramigen but if i put it in his food he wont eat anything.

Im writing everything down thats hes having and watching for a reaction, yesterday he had a bad reaction to rusks even tho it says it does not contain milk.Im reading all the packs over and over to check for milk.
Also is there a milk free butter?

I just dont know how to move on from fruit and veg purees and have not been given any advice on how to wean a baby with cma
Any advice or ideas from anybody going through anything similar would be great.

Also has anybody tried aptamil pepti,is this the same as nutramigen?
I would try it if it tastes better but dont want to make him ill.

Thanks for reading x

My LO is in a similar situation, but she's milk protein/soy protein intolerant. When we started weaning I made sure to read every package & avoided all things that contained milk or soy. She ate nothing but fruit, veggie & meat purees (and her formula). Once I knew she was ok with individual fruits & veggies I started combining them or mixing her cereal in with them. She still hasn't had butter or cheese but we did try a few spoonfuls of yogurt today & she did really well with it.
Sorry I'm not much help but I can sympathize.

hi my lo is cmpi and soya intollerent. also on nutramigen. to be fair it does taste foul but shes so use to it as shes been on it since she was 9 weeks old.
as for oat milk im not sure i know when i saw a dietician she said i could use some kind of milk but cant remember if it was oat or rice milk.
have you tried your LO on soya?
as for a dairy free butter - we use vitalite as its dairy and soya free can buy in all supermarkets.
the pepti formula tastes awful to. i think all the cpmi formulas are pretty foul tasting tbh.

I was wondering the same thing so I'm stalking! My LO is CMI too and is on cow and gate pepti-junior. It's not too bad, smells like hallicks. I use that when I make her rice and she really likes it.

I'm combi feeding my LO with Aptamil pepti (dietician says its the better tasting of the formula options!) but she said if I cook with it I couldn't freeze the food so we use oat milk and pure spread for cooking!

To be honest, even with dietician appointments, we get very little support and seem to be left to muddle along on our own!

Ahh thankyou.
I went and got some vitalite and im still using the oat milk in dh's rice and cooking.
Do you know if aptamil pepti is prescription or over the counter?
I dont want to keep changing his milk but he's so fussy over nutramigen and wont take it.
Its ok atm as im breastfeeding but when i go back to work i want to combi feed and i need a formula he will take.
Its awful isnt it that theres no much support,my health visitor just says to try him with things and see if he reacts and keep pushing the nutramigen.

Multi Allergies

Hi all.... both my Daughter (3) and Son (18mnths) have multipul food allergies some being Dairy, Egg, Soya and Wheat.

I have found Kara Coconut milk to be great, they both love it and its good for cooking with.

There is a fab site called dierty needs direct They have everything you need for food allergies.

My children are under Great Ormond Street Hospital due to the allergies and have been diagnosed with Eosinophillic Diease. Has this effected anyone? I am looking to start a help and support group as there is not much help about allergies and weaning allergic babies!

Good Luck everyone it is hard but you get used to get very quickly..!!

Hi fellow cma mums! This is my 1st time in weaning section we saw paediatric dietitian this week who said I should try taking dairy now (LO is EBF) evrn though I told her I tried it 3weeks ago and she had an awful reaction! She also said she expects LO to go to nursery on regular aptamil??? I can't imagine how she will take a cows milk based formula given her reaction to trace amounts of the protein in my milk
So I have to trust the professional but tbh I was a bit confused given that I have worked so hard at avoiding hidden dairy to stop LO's pain snd screaming!!
She said the more you avoid dairy the worse their allergy will get I came away utterly confused x

Aww Ruth that sounds very confusing, she didnt seem to give you much useful advice, i am yet to see the dietician so cant really help but it does sound weird that she thinks lo could go on normal aptamil.
Weare trying out aptamil pepti atm got it on prescription.
How strange that she said avoiding dairy will make it worse... if my dh gets just a lil bit of milk he vomits so badly its scary. x

Just out of interest what symptoms do your lovely LO's get?
My dh vomits so badly it could be 2-6hrs after the food/milk but its so bad he empties his stomach and tmi but everything is curdled then he brings up bile and retches for hours after,he goes very weak and tierd, its so scary.
He also sometimes gets hives on face and body.
xx
