Milk as a drink...necessary?

My 1yr old is still breastfed when she wants it but eats mostly solids with an am, pm, and mid afternoon breastfeed. At daycare (which she started two weeks ago) she refuses formula from a cup or bottle - she used to have a formula top up till a few months back so I know she likes it - she only wants water. At home she likes her water with each meal and snack.

I was just wondering, when she finally decides (or I do) that she no longer wants any more boob milk, does she need to drink formula/cows milk to be healthy or is it unnecessary?
Also is she OK not having milk on her daycare days (3days per week)?

Don't know sorry but assume as long as she is getting some, i.e. for a bedtime feed, it would be ok.

I may not be 100% right but I've been looking into this too for when dd turns 1 next mth. (she is ff though - don't know if that makes a difference to this)

After 1 babies seem to need at least 3 "portions" of dairy a day (don't know what a "portion" is though). Formula is unnecessary & cows milk can be offered as a drink BUT if only offering cows milk (no formula & I assume no breastmilk??) they need vitamin drops adding to their diet somewhere. I think that is because the vitamins/iron is harder to absorb from cows milk & other vitamins (not sure which ones) help out with that.

I don't know if cows milk necessary as such, but we've just started giving dd a beaker with cows milk in alongside breakfast - she has her bottle about an hour before so I'm not cutting any formula yet, I just want to give her chance to get used to it. It's not working though - she just spits it out!! Lol! I'm trying not to get too wound up about it!!!

my doctor said no. As long as your baby is getting plenty of yogurt and cheeses you are fine with however much milk your baby wants to drink

Omar doesn't drink much milk since we weaned him off the bottle at 23 months. They need 12 oz of dairy as a min. I give Omar lots of plain yoghurt, he drinks 1 cup of milk around 5 oz, & he gets around 4 oz in his cereals. We also give him Pediavit a, c & d drops as vit D is difficult to get from food. Milk is only a drink at 1+ years. If your LO is getting enough dairy in food it should be fine xx

At this rate i'm going to be breastfeeding for the full 2yrs just to avoid the stress!!

I've never measured how much milk I put on her cereal or how much cheese (I've been focusing on how to limit the salt!!) etc. I know daycare got a nutritionist to do their menus but I don't know if it was based on them getting a milk drink too - I'll have to ask! I'm pretty sure they either have a milky cereal for breakfast OR a rice pudding at lunch, OR a cheese sandwich or yoghurt for a snack, not one at each meal...hmmm confusing.
