Meal sizes?

Sam's nearly 6 months now and has been having tastes of food - just pureed veg and fruit, and cereal in the mornings - for a couple of weeks (we're going to a couple of weddings when he's 6 months old so I wanted to get him used to having small amounts of food at home first). He seems to love the food though, and I'm sure he would just keep eating if I let him.

How much is it ok for him to have at each meal? I'm making his food myself but his bowl holds 125ml so it's about the same size as a jar. If I half fill it he'll eat it all and want more so I'm wondering if I should start giving him bigger portions (this is after a milk feed so not when he's really hungry). He's only having 2 meals a day but is a jar-sized amount at each meal too much? Or should I go up to 3 smaller meals a day first?

I followed the Annabel Karmels weaning guide, and by the fourth week she advises that babies are having breakfast, lunch and dinner. How big the sizes though it doesnt state.

Kyle now has 3 meals, each the equivelant on half a jar. Sometime he would eat more, but just now I dont offer him anymore, as I dont want him to lessen his milk intake.

Hope this helps xx

Thank you! I have Annabel Karmel's 'Feeding your baby and toddler' but I couldn't find anything about portion sizes - only that she suggests freezing in ice cube trays and defrosting however many you need!

I think I'll carry on as we are for now then with half jar sizes, and go up to 3 meals in a week or two x

I let Colton eat as much as he wants.. he has his bottle first, and then about 30-45 min later the puree.
He gets jars, because I dont make them myself. But he gets some breakfast (usually doesn't eat but a few spoons because he HATES cereal ), then a 2.5oz jar at lunch (would sometimes eat more, but thats a WHOLE jar!), and then a 2.5oz jar at dinner and if he seems like he would take more I give him just a few bites (usually 3-5) of a dessert. But he is usually not as hungry during dinner and so therefore only gets dessert every 2-3 days. He is always the hungriest during lunch.

Thanks...as long as Sam's still having enough milk (and he's still feeding lots during the day so I'm sure he's ok at the moment) I might try him on a bit more if he's always eating it all once we're on 3 meals - good to know that's not too much for them to be having ...I think Colton's a bit bigger than Sam at the moment - although Sam was quite big at birth too and has always fed lots! x

Yeah, he was 9lbs14. He's always been in like the 95 percentage.. his doctor said he is doing good as long as he stays along the same percentage.. he would only be worried if he started on the 95th and then went down to like 75th.. or vice versa.
He's my chunka monka!
