How much should my LO be eating?!

I started Tom off on solids on Friday using the guidelines from a book. It says to give half milk, then 1-2tsps of baby rice, then rest of milk.

You are then supposed to up the amount of solid food varying it (sweet potatoe, pear puree etc) and reduce the milk feeds, which makes sense.

But my LO just loves the food and devours it! He took about 7spoon fulls at his 1st solid meal and ow, 6 days on he is eating alot more at a meal than recommended, and no milk!!

Do you think this is OK? Will it mess with his digestive sytem? Too much too Soon?

What are your LO's like?

From what I understand, milk still needs to be their main source of food/calories at this age. I've just started weaning Joe too and he's taking about 5 spoons at breakfast and lunch. This is the 2nd week with solids, first day with 2 meals and he's taking maybe 1oz less at his bottle at meal times (8oz rather than 9oz), but we give him that after his solids.
We started off with a taste, 1 or 2 spoons at first and then built upto 4 or 5 over the next couple of days.

Yeh thanks. Iv now stopped milk feeds before solids but top him up afterwards, this way he eats more solids and I know he's getting enough milk. I'm not too worried about the amount of solids he eats now as there doesn't seem to be any effects afterward (stomach ache etc)
