Weaning whilst on Domperidone and Ranitidine

Just wondering if anyone has experience of this? Did you keep your lo on the medication whilst weaning? Did you find the reflux improved with solids? or did they bring the solids up too?

Just wondering what to expect and if I should avoid any particular foods.

I havent seen any difference tbh. I havent had a huge lot of throwing up since being on the meds though.

Thanks sb22. Do you find that you have to keep increasing the dosage of the meds?

deleted cause it sounded confusing.

we uped the ranitidine to max dosage - you should check with the doctor about that x

thanks. the gp increased it yesterday but by the minimum amount, but i dont think its working....might have to go back to the paed.

Alex was 12lb when they gave her the new dosage for ranitidine - for that weight its 0.3mlmin to 1.3mls max, 3 times a day. That might help a bit?

Her dosage for domperidone was 2mls. Not sure if that was the max though, but we've kept to it.

Hi Lyre - our LO is only on Gaviscon so I don't have experience of the drugs you mentioned, but we have just started introducing solids in the last few days, and he's keeping them down much better than he's ever kept milk down. I've also attempted a couple of milk feeds without using Gaviscon and touchwood, no back arching or painful crying and not an excessive amount of regurgitation, so am really crossing my fingers that the reflux is improving!

All the best with weaning - are you planning to start a bit before 6 months?

Hi, I don't post on here often (hardly ever!!!) We found we could stop our daughters Ranitidine once she'd started on solids. We cut it down from 3 times a day to two and one then finally none. She wasn't on Domperidone when we weaned her though as she had an allergic reaction to it and was taken off it by her consultant. We do still add Carobel to her bottles though, not sure if your LO has that too?? xx
