genetic counseling and wtt

Is anyone considering genetic counseling before wtt?

OH is a carrier for cystic fibrosis and would like to me get screened.I was just wondering if anyone was going thru anything similar.

No, DH and I weren't considering it - we aren't carriers for anything (other than the usual genetic heart diseases, cancer, etc.)

We're considering genetic screening as my OH has Multiple Sclerosis. It's not usually a genetic disease but 4 members of his family have MS (2 have died since) so OH is terrified he may pass it on to any little ones. We wont be going ahead with any genetic screening for a while yet tho as we have other plans before TTC, but who knows!

Oh my lord - how do you guys cope with that?

I can't imagine having this kind of craving for motherhood but having the baby's health in mind.... blimey!

What can they do to protect it?
can they modify genes to prevent it?
or is it just screening in-utero?

yes i am.. well i have 2 see a genetic specialist as i have a chromasome defect.. it causes me 2 m/c and if i do get 2 a certain stage there is a risk of birth defects or stillbirth.

^I think more and more people are getting it nowadays esp. since it's free in some places.

I'm not getting anything atm, but if i ever MC then i'll probably have to have counsellin. The women on my side of the family can't carry boys, my auntie lost 5 boys all at around 18wks.. A few have actually had boys, but have been riddled with problems throughout the pregnancy. So i'm just gona have to hope i'm one of the lucky ones when i get my BFP..
