I've heard that you should save up at least $3000. However, I think it's a lot cheaper if you are very selective as to what you buy. For example, OH and I would save at least $70 (at least!) by sticking with a baby sling instead of the very fancy $100+ stroller. Not to mention how reusable items are possible money savers. When I look at baby stuff, I'm sure to ask myself, "Is that really necessary or is it just a want?" Or perhaps,"Can I get something just as effective for less money?"

I think if you get pregnant you find a way to provide for that child; on the other hand, if you are not pregnant and are just considering TTC and are in a position to start saving, it is wise to do so. Everyone wants the best for their child: if you have good incomes and can provide without saving, fine, but if you're going to need to save up in order to give your child the best I think that is a good idea. My H and I are in a good financial position but we want to wait until I am into my career so we have good incomes. It's mainly my husband making us wait but I do see the need and can understand his worry. I think it is whatever is best for you and your situation.
