Its never too early to plan.
I however waited until my 20 week scan to make sure everything was ok before I actually purchased anything.
I was 5 months pregnant when I bought my car seats & pram & I felt so weird doing it so early to be honest.

One thing I would suggest is make sure you get the real bargains, Wait for a company to reduce their prices & then go to Kiddicare/Mothercare who do price matches plus some more. I found this a godsend. I managed to get 2 Maxi Cosi Car seats plus the isofix bases for about £344. The RRP for these is £500.

I bought my pram on ebay for a quarter of the price.

Hope this helps

Mel x

For me it wasn't til I had made 30wks cos I had a previous 24wker and a cervical stitch so things were uncertain. I was too frightened to acknowledge I Might this time be bringing home full-termers who were healthy. It's funny how pregnancy complications completely change your perspective - I was totally blasé before my preemie. 20wks is a good point at which to be cautiously optimistic in your case hun xxx

I started right away, but I bought NOTHING new. After my 12 week mark I started hitting garage sales and thrift stores. I found so many brand new items for a fraction of the cost. The only things I waited on were things I wanted to be gender specific like clothes (obviously) and nursery decor. I found a fantastic swing that retails at $150.00 for $35.00 at the motherhood thrift store, BOTH newborn carseats for $60.00 for the pair, bouncy chairs for $5.00 each, a newborn tub for $3.00, the list is endless. Aside for the crib and dresser (both from my daughter) I had to buy everything and I would say I spent less than $1000.00 TOTAL for all my baby supplies including recieving blankets and baby blankets/quilts. The only large purchases I have had to make are the cloth diapers ($500) and the odds and ends like bottles, pacifiers, and toiletries.

Also, I got 3 gift cards from 3 stores I frequent... one is a grocery store, one is a dept store and one is a "all in one" store. I have added money to each of these cards throughout the pregnancy and plan on using these giftcards to help after the babies are born for things like formula or shampoo. The point is, its NEVER to early to prepare. Babies are a lot of work. By buying consistently throughout your pregnancy it may eliminate a lot of stress.

I waited until about 20 weeks. I only bought diapers earlier (if there were good coupons/sales)... but kept the receipts attached.

The first item was an outfit each, just white item. We starting looking for the larger items when I was 20weeks.
