Breast feeding twins and expressing

Hello

Another question to those mums who breastfed / feed their twins - is it feasible to express milk so that my hubby can help out with some feeds? If so, do the babies have trouble switching from teats to breast and vice-versa?

Or is this idea purely idealistic and naive? (this is my first pregnancy - the babes are yet to arrive...so many questions )

My reply on another thread...applies here too

Please dont think I am attacking you..I just want you to think through this..30 minutes of prep, washing, pumping, freezing, thawing, all to save 10 nursing? I did it with my twins..It sucked..I have bf'd 8 children..when I was pumping, it was the worst..I thought the same thing..Ill need help...It was more work, I got less sleep, not worth it...Also, there are so many young women who try it like this, and fail..After a few months, they formula feed...It's just too hard..it wasn't meant to be that much work...I wish you luck, but admire your dedication if you can do it..

Yah I agree. I b/f my two and they never had any trouble switching between bottle and @@.
I made enough milk for mine but wouldn't have been able to express enough to store.
There were some nights when I had to express cos the twins stayed asleep. So we had the occasional 3oz to give them. But not enough for my OH to help.

It's so much easier to just do the b/f & be a zombie for a while!

Good luck xx

Hi, is this atypical of twins? It's because I was thinking of direct feeding the twins but also pump for freezing. Will I not have enough to store? If so, then I won't buy a double electric pump because it is so expensive here.

I bf both twins til 8 weeks and had time, energy and milk to express once a day (if I didnt go out or have too many visitors) and would always have enough for one feed (at least)for hubby to feed. Froze a fair whack too. I think itos an individual thing. I only feed one twin now (due to a lazy little boy feeder) and still manage to express once a day, sterilise bottles, make bottles etc.) Both babies have never had a problem with nipple confusion. I am very organised though!

Wow! Thanks for your reply. I have no idea how I'll manage Twin b-feeding but if I can be remotely organised (I thinking might need lessons off you!) then what you're doing sounds grand.
