Just had my first scan today and found out the two identicals in one sac. Heartbeat could be seen on ultrasound, am just in shock after over 4 years of trying and a year on clomid, after I said enough is enough.. stopped clomid for 3 months Nov-Dec 2009 and Jan 2010. Was now saving for IVF when I missed my period and today at 6.5 weeks vaginal ultrasound confirmed the identicals!!! Am still in shock...

Ok let me give you some advice the other twin mums and mums-to-be gave me - do not google anything!! Lol. Seriously, its the worst thing you can do. I did the same thing, soon as i got home from finding out that im expecting twins, i looked stuff up on the internet, and completely freaked myself out about TTTS & premature labour etc etc. As you are carrying identicals, they will keep a close eye on you and scan you often to make sure everything is ok, so try not to worry. As my GP said, eat well (lots of fruit, veg and protein!) so that they will grow to a healthy weight and dont stress.

Im 21 weeks today and so far so good thank god. Other than my blood pressure being a bit high at times and being in extreme discomfort not to mention the exhaustion - we're doing well! I get scanned every two weeks (thats the norm in the uk for identical twins, how is it for you?) and so far they've been growing consistently.

As for your bubs being in one sac, is there a thin membrane seperating them? You can get two dif types with identicals. They can either be in one big sac, or a big sac wth a thin membrane which seperates them.

Sorry ive waffled on a bit! Any time you want a chat PM me. xx

Went for my scan on March 30 and there is a thin membraine separating the two. Does that mean they are not identicals even when they are in the same Sac. Am just cofused. Is it better or worse???

Hey hun, this is a good thing! Yours are like mine - mine are also identical in one big sac with a thin membrane seperating them. You can have two types of identicals - either one big sac with no membrane, or like ours, with the membrane. If they have the membrane seperating them, its better for them because if there isnt a membrane they can get their cords tangled up, which can lead to problems. As long as they are sharing a placenta, they are identical.

If on the other hand they are in seperate sacs with two placentas (and a much thicker membrane) then they would be non-identical. I was told by my consultant that the best outcome is two seperate sacs with 2 placentas (as this is the least risky, no risk of twin to twin transfusion syndrome if they have a placenta each), and the most risky would have been one big sac, no membrane, so she said mine are in the middle - not too risky but can have problems.

So far so good though - im 24 weeks today and my boys are doing well

Hope that didnt confuse you more than you already are - i do tend to waffle! lol.
