Newbie Expecting Twins!

I have just joined the forum. I already have three boys, aged 13, 9 and almost 6 and found out at my 12 week scan last week that I am expecting twins!

I am overjoyed! My husband is too, now he is over the initial shock and worry. (he hought he'd have to leave his job and we'd need a new washer and drier for the extra baby! )

I have loads of questions, so will probably be posting about a million threads. Our first consultant's appointment is tomorrow, so I expect a lot of questions will be answered then.

I am beyond excited!!!

congratulations what great news x

I remember the shock, for me just over 2 weeks ago.. I have 2 boys already, very similar age to your younger ones, they are 10 and 7 and they are so excited but have put in an order for girls, mmmm, I dont think they have grasped how nature works!

I'm still waiting for my first consultant appointment so be great to hear how you get on.

Thanks. I am English and this is my first pregnancy in NI, but I have found the health service over here great so far, they are much more thorough than I ever found them in England, if I am honest. I have only had to wait a week for my consultant appointment.

Oddly, my sons all want girl babies, my 9 year old especially. He said 'not more brothers'. I started off thinking I'd prefer a girl, and I suppose at least now I have double the chance, but I would be happy whatever. I feel like it would be a little strange to have girls after boys I am used to boys.

I will be 38 weeks on 8th August. so assume I am due then. You must be around that date too?

I am 38 weeks beginning Aug so we are really close. how are you feeling at the moment?

I think that my morning sickness and tiredness are subsiding now but the bump is doing quite nicely! I didn't show with either of the boys until I was at least 4 or 5 months so I am finding it quite strange! I keep forgetting there are 2 in there until OH reminds me and we just get more excited every day. I know it's going to be tough, I've read so many things about multiple pregnancies but I am determined to enjoy this as much as I can and go with it.

do you know if yours are identical or fraternal?

Yes, we are really close! We can compare 'notes'.

My morning sickness is getting better as long as I remember to eat regularly. I am quite hungry now, having been of food to start with. I am pleased as my morning sickness lasted 22 weeks ish with my other pregnancies. I am still very tired, but I am looking after three other children and my husband goes away a lot with work, so I suppose that's to be expected.

I think I am having fraternal twins. There are definitely two sacs, but the sonographer didn't mention placentas. I expect the consultant will explan more tomorrow.

I really want to know the sexes, I hate waiting for anything! Plus, I want to start buying things. I read a tip on another forum to start stocking up on nappies and wipes etc, so I think I might do that so I have a supply in and then it will spread the cost a bit too, as I seem to have expensive tastes for everything else and my poor husband is in despair...

I've thought about stocking up but I'm a bit worried, I think I'll have a shock with the monthly bill's if I dont!
I think thats one of the hardest things, I found that my MS was worse on the long days when OH was away in london or the boys were being hard or I generally had an exhausting day.

My OH has started looking for another, better paid job already.. bless him, I feel bad but we started this little adventure together and never expected 2 so I can understand..lol
we are struggling with finding the right travel system/push chair..they all cost so much and spending so much money I want to make sure we get the right one.. so much to think about do you know or had a look at any yet?

good luck tomorrow, cant wait to hear how you got on

I think we are having identical, one placenta and a really thin memberane between them but no one can say for sure, so frustrating!!!

I'll let you know how we get on tomorrow.

We are just off out to look at prams now. I am really fussy and when we were looking at single prams liked the Mamas and Papas ultima, but most twin pushchairs just don't seem to compare. We're looking at an Emmaljunga today, which I like the lok of and can be rear or forward facing and have a kind of carrycot thing. Also hoping to find a mountain buggy to look at. We have three dogs and I do a lot of walking and it is windy/wet here, so I feel like I need something cosy for the babies. Both are expensive, but I am hoping whatever we get will last. I hadn't heard of Emmaljunga before, but they have a website.

Congratualtions hun! I just had my 2nd scan (a 3d one) and found out im having twin boys! I already have a 3 year old son who was demanding baby brothers and it seems like he's got his own way! Like you, it was a big shock when i found out i was having twins at my 12 week scan, and my consultant meeting isnt until tomorrow so i have been stressing about them ever since i found out! My hubby keeps telling me off cos i keep reading all this negative stuff that can go wrong on the internet, and was working myself up, so we paid for a private 3d scan today to put our minds at rest.

Thank god, all is well with the little fellas, who are identical, so i'm feeling much better today! Good luck and keep in touch xx

Chetnaz, how many weeks were you when you had the 3D scan? I am considering a private gender scan if they won't tell me the sexes. Our hospital don't usualy tell, but the sonographer told me the consultant might agree to tell me. I am hoping he'll scan me tomorrow and I might be able to ask, although I will only be 13 +2.

We have decided on pushchairs, thankgoodness! We are going to the Emmaljunga twin city cross with the twin duolifts and then the Baby Jogger city mini for the car/shops as the Emmaljunga probably won't fit in our boot and I don't feel the baby jogger is cosy enough for walking the dogs. Luckily, hubby has agreed to two and we both like both of them. Going to order next month, early, but I want to put them up and stare at them....
