Since al of you have gone through or are going through mulitple pregnancies I would really appreciate your opinions and advice. Thank you so so so so much. I am going to be going through ivf probably around April of 2010. Yesterday Dh and I went to a mandatory counselling session to have ivf. We essentially had to "prove" that we were ready for it, knowledgable and that we were making sound decisions. So we had to explain the details of our problems and the details of our treatments ahead and all of our thoughts, feelings, and decisions and the reasons behind them. The only detail that we haven't decided on is whether or not to transfer 1 or 2 embryos. The counsellor very very highly recommended only 1, but said since we are paying the $10,000 it is our decision. She gave us some information and it was kind of scary. The risks associated with twin pregnancies are 2X - 6X the regular risks. It talks about how common it is for ivf patients to want 2 transfered because you have waited so long - and 2 feels like it is a more sure thing - and when it costs so much the idea of 2 is so enticing. She mentioned that dh and I should have a clear decision made ahead of time - and not to let something the doc says at the last minute to influence us. Dh and I are so torn on this. We are going to continue to research and discuss this. I would love to hear your opinions, advice, success. THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART. Details - We are both 28. I have blocked tubes, ovarian cyst, endo, fibroids (all to be removed during lap) and I have pcos. Sorry that was a long question. Phew! |

We transferred 2 grade A day 5 embryos. We were abosolutely thrilled with twins. I have had some complications. During first tri, I had slight bleeding twice. I have gestational diabetes as well. I don't know if this would have happened if I only had a singleton. The biggest issue with multiples in my opinion is pre-term labor. I took a wonderful class on Neonatal ICU last night. The doctor said they have come so far in technology that a baby has a pretty close chance of 100% survival if they are born 32 weeks or later. Since you are young the chances of complications are small as well. Hope this helped, it's not an easy decision. |

Both Stuck and they now have 2 beautiful twin girls that are 10 months old! I say go for it (but only if you think you can handle it). I personally would feel bad to go through it with only one and it not work out. But you are right, there is more complications possible with Twin pgs. I am worried about that same thing right now due to early bleeding and having several losses behind me. I also have a 6yr old daughter too, so I know I can handle it...but it is still scarry!! Good luck! |

I had a C section (due to breech) at 37 weeks. No signs of labor at that point though...I chose to have it early because I was so uncomfortable and in so much pain at that point. My girls did have 10 days in the NICU but we are home now--they are 4 weeks tomorrow. ![]() ![]() I wouldn't change any of my decisions. |

I have never regretted it for a moment. My pregnancy was fine, no problems and they were delivered by c-section as Charlotte (twin one) was breech. There is something truly magical and special about twins. They are the light of my life and I couldn't imagine life without one of them. ![]() My advice would be to go for it! |

Dh and I first thought without a doubt we would transfer 2 - but I feel like the clinic is really trying to sway our decision so I feel like it is best to find out more. All of you have had more than one put back and had much success - Thank you again so much for sharing. |
