Have my chronicity scan tomorrow!

Hi everyone,

I have a scan tomorrow that will check on the chronicity of the twins. I was so shell shocked when i found out at my last scan that they said they would get me back and gather more information. The only thing they said that i remember is that they both measured the same at 10+5. Which would have been bang on for my dates.

When i look at my scan pic i'm sure that they are in different sacs. This means that they would be non identical?? Not to clued up on this yet!!

The other thing is that i have no history of any twins in either sides of our families which lead people to tell me they are more likely to be identical?

Just trying to guess what the answer is really. Will pop the pictures up and would be grateful for any comments.

Thanks in advance xx

You don't have to have twins in the family to hyperovulate ( release two eggs) thus making non identical twins so they can be identical or non identical.

And also identicals can be in different sacs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twin I love wikipedia lol.

Its all exciting isnt it!! good luck for the scan! xxx

They can tell if they are identical or fraternal by measuring the distance between the sacs. They say mine are fraternal because there is a big space..They will tell you during an ultrasound. You will have a bunch..Don't worry!

We all know how excited you are! I have had ultrasounds each time I go in. I just had my big scan at 18 weeks, and that was just the way it worked out. We did find out we are having two boys..Now, this is not my first, they are my 7th and 8th babies..Quite a shock for us..It's just like our first though..The excitement, the nerves, all of it..The night before my last scan, I could not sleep because I was so excited! My hubby is thrilled out of his mind as well, as are the other children..They love my belly, hug it and talk to them daily..
As for finding out the sex, I would really wait to even ask until the 20 week..they can be wrong so many times when it's done earlier, depending on how early it is..I would not trust a 14 week ultrasound on the gender...

did you know that 30% of di di twins are still identical it just means the egg split really early on and the only way you can tell is gentic testing (or phsical differences) after birth.

The little scan at the bottom is mine at 6 weeks definitely two sacs they confirm this at every scan (have had five so far)

Good luck at the scan - I must say they get a lot less nerve wracking once you can feel them moving around. That is a tense moment when they first put the probe on your belly isnt it.

lol ok here is what has happened to me so far

6 weeks scan (due to bleed then found its twins)
13 weeks - standard dating scan
16 weeks - another scan (wasnt supposed to have it just they asked if i wanted one lol) they wouldnt tell gender
18 weeks - anther scan specifically to check for eyes due to genetic issue in my family they did the anomally at this time and told us sex
23 weeks - antoher scan just to redo anomally as 18 weeks was a bit early apparently.

I am due another scan on the 17th @28+2 and then every four weeks as standard from there unless there are growth or movement issues. If they are mono twins I think you get a scan every two weeks to check for ttts.

I did not know that! I wonder if testing should be done then, or does it really matter???

Thank you so much for your replies! and for the reassurance!!

Well had the scan this afternoon and both babies are just fine, they were wriggling all about and i can't believe how much they have grown in 2 weeks! They have told me that they each have a placenta and are in their own little sacs. So are not classed as identical.
I feel so relieved now i have spoken to someone about it. The consultant was lovely and answered all my silly questions!
Next scan is the detailed one at 20 weeks and it has been booked for the 30th December so we will have a lovely new year present!.

Thank to you all again and i'm sure i will have loads more stupid questions for you all!
