2 heart beats @ drs...?

Hi ladies! Im 31 weeks along. Had an appt with my midwife yesterday and I was telling her that it feels like my lil man is breech because his head is up under my ribs, and she tried 2 tell me it might be his butt until she felt it. But my question is... she was listenin to his heart beat next 2 my pelvic bone and said oh no his head is down because his heart beat is down here and I said no! Lol put that up here (few inches above my belly button) and she did and found another heart beat. Both were in the 160s and she said well seems like the baby has 2 heads and 2 hearts and said it would be crazy if it was twins because I've had an u/s n it showed 1. So.... im having another u/s in a couple weeks. But was it just 1 baby? Or wat? Lol im kinda confused because there was no heart beat in the middle just the two beats at different ends... what do you think?
Thanks for reading!

wow this is an interesting one. i am not sure about at 31 weeks, but i know earlier on you can pick up the babies heartbeat in three place...like an echo? it freaks me out because with twins i can often hear heartrates in 5 or 6 places, only two of them are the true galloping sound compared to thud, thud , thud (
if that makes sense) if both rates were the same and no second baby showed at your ultrasound it is probably just one. when was your ultrasound? how far along were you. also chances are with two there would be other indicators by now, like larger than average uterus. mine always measure about 6 weeks ahead of a singleton. hope that helps. but geesh keep us posted, will be curious to see what you find out. good luck!!

You can hear the cord pulsing as well as baby's true heartbeat, it was probably that. A scan at 20wks wouldn't have missed another baby.

A family friend is a sonographer, and sometimes babys can be missed at scans if they are in a funny position. Sometimes hiding higher up in the ribcage, or behind the other baby. But wow what a shock for you if it was 2!!
good luck anyway

My husband's friend was told she was having "a girl" at the 20 week scan, and then she went into labor, had her "one girl" and then the doctor said "Oh wait, here comes another!" So yea, they sure can miss a baby in a scan!

Yep. Identical girls.

Come to think of it, my friend has twin boys and was told it was one until about 24 weeks. I don't know if she had a scan before that or not, but her doctor's kept saying there was only one heartbeat and there was no way there were two, but she insisted on a scan and sure enough, there were 2!

Hmm.. maybe I have a chance then, even if there's "only one" when I have my first scan. lol
