For those considering the Clearblue Fertility Monitor
New Research Suggests a
Primary Cause for Failure to Conceive is Mistiming of Intercourse
New research, published this month in “Current Medical Research & Opinion” shows that a small, hand-held, digital diagnostic device that identifies the fertile days of a woman’s cycle and allows couples to time intercourse accordingly, should be considered before other attempts at infertility diagnosis are made*1.
In a retrospective, observational study of 196 women who successfully conceived using the Clearblue Fertility Monitor, previous history data showed that 126 women had consulted a medical professional for advice and 81 had been prescribed medication, including clomiphene citrate (helps stimulate ovulation) and gonadotrophins (FSH and LH Hormones). During the time they had spent trying to conceive, many women had tests or treatments including; vaginal ultrasound scans, hormonal blood tests, intrauterine insemination, laparoscopy, analysis of their partners’ semen, and in-vitro fertilisation.
After switching to the Clearblue Fertility Monitor, the majority, (91.9%) conceived within three cycles, indicating that the probable cause of their previous failure to conceive was, in fact, the incorrect timing of intercourse. This research also highlights the issue of unnecessary early medical intervention and suggests that the Clearblue Fertility Monitor can help to reduce both the financial and emotional costs of evaluations and treatments for couples trying to conceive.
* Unless there are conflicting clinical reasons
As most conceptions occur following intercourse during the six days leading up to and ending on the day of ovulation, the Clearblue Fertility Monitor is designed to identify the days on which sexual intercourse is most likely to lead to conception, thereby maximising a woman’s chance of conceiving. It goes a
step further than traditional ovulation kits, by detecting two hormones that help identify the ‘High’ fertility days leading up to ovulation and the ‘Peak’ fertility days when ovulation takes place.
Dr Jayne Ellis for Clearblue says: “This research further proves that the Clearblue Fertility Monitor is the most advanced home method of maximising a woman’s chances of conceiving. The personal information it provides can empower women who are planning a pregnancy because it enables them to understand their own individual cycle, which varies from woman to woman, and it identifies their wider ‘window of fertility’ because it detects both ‘High’ and ‘Peak’ fertility days.”
The research findings are published in a paper entitled: MISTIMING OF INTERCOURSE AS A PRIMARY CAUSE OF FAILURE TO CONCEIVE: RESULTS OF A SURVEY ON USE OF A HOME-USE FERTILITY MONITOR”, Current Medical Research and Opinion. Vol. 23, (2) 2007, Pages 301-306 (request the complete paper from Lisa Penney on 01628 52620.
Very easy once you get to know how it works.
It is expensive if bought new, i went on ebay and got one that had been used for only 6 weeks for £51 (new price is £99)
The sticks are £20 from boots for 20 or £17 from ebay.
20 sticks will do you two cycles as long as your cycles arent long (20 for one cycle if its quite long)
Yep, I agree with Arcanegirl. It's very easy to use and the instruction booklet that comes with it has all the answers to your questions.
I also bought mine from ebay for approx. £50 and mine was brand new. However, even though I'm not an expert and know it can't "make you conceive", it is a very reassuring tool as it measures your LH as well as oestrogen and therefore highlights MORE fertile days that the cheapie OPK sticks. I would have paid the full price for one if I hadn't won my bid on ebay; as I want to give myself the best chance possible to conceive as I am now 45 and have no time to waste.
If you can afford it, I say go for it.

Ok, DH and I have decided to invest in one of these, I actually read him some reviews I read online, aswell as your own comments on this product, and it seems to have done the trick!!
I'm trying to find the best deal - We can't seem to find anyone in Australia on ebay who sells them, and my calls around to all our local pharmacies turned up nothing - no one stocks them (can you believe some have never heard of them!!) - any ideas ladies? I'd rather not spend the 200 dollars + that I would have to pay through the commercial website for them. I'm just running out of ideas.
I'm hoping to have one ready for next cycle (I'm about to enter the TWW)
What about international sellers on ebay?
Might find an auction from the US for example from someone who would post to you.
I dont think the designs are any different for different countries.
I have ordered one from Ebay - brand new and with 30 test strips. I'm having it shipped to my mother in laws because they don't ship outside USA, and she will forward it onto me here in Australia (Thats the good thing about being married to an american!!!) - So i'm thinking it may not arrive before next cycle starts (thats if I don't get a bfp this month)
but I've been reading how you girls say you can program it a little late so you can start on cd 2 or more.....So thats good!
Yay!! I'm like a bloody kid in a candy store here...so excited.
