hiya im fine thanks hun no news from my sister wasn't really expecting any

im cd 27 2day af is due any time from saturday till tuesday lol

i have had such a busy day 2day i will have to catch up laterz when i get the kids 2 bed

i wonder if any one can help me on this one

HOME SCHOOLING?

as i was saying about kians speech being really bad they have told me i could keep him back a year but i have 2 send him 2 a special needs school. now 2day i got a call that he can't go to the special need school because of his IQ test score being high and he doesn't have learning problems so they want 2 statement him which i feel is putting a marker on him at such a young age, i feel so let down by the whole system as they should have been doing some thing abt kians speech a long time ago instead now there is a big panic 3months before he is to start school

so i have come up with the idea of teaching him at home, does any one know any thing abt home teaching?

thanks girls

Aw Kitcat that's a hard one.

I don't know anything about home schooling but I guess it would be very hard work for you. Also, I think that being in a school environment is really important for kiddies - it's not just the lessons, it's the social interaction which they learn too. Has anyone assessed Kian to find out why he is having trouble speaking? As his IQ is high he would learn a lot in school lessons even if he wasn't actually talking a lot. Also, being with lots of other kids his age would be a good motivation for him to start speaking more, wouldn't it? Have you got an option of sending him to school but having someone work on his speech for a few hours a week?

Sorry I can't be much help hun!

hiya thanks
yeah it would be hard work, and like you said it's not just the lessons it's also the social interaction. Yes we had a lady out last week who assessed kian she done lot's of test's and played with him she done his IQ score, she said that because he didn't reach all his other mile stones as in sitting up, walking and feeding on time that his speech is just going to be the same. I have the option where i can just send him on to normal school in sept but they have told me that he wont get as much help going to mainstream school as he would going to the special needs school, i had no problem with him going to the special needs school for 1year till he matured and cought up with his piers (which was the plan) but now they tell me for kian to get in to the special school he will have to be statemended which i am not happy about.
I really don't know what to do i have not slept a wink last night, every time i look at him i feel like crying. I am also feeling so guilty because i knew kians speech was a problem for a long time now why didn't i fight to get him the help he needed years ago now 3months before he starts school there is this big panic, i feel so let down by my health visitor and the speech theraphist. I had a look around the little special needs school on monday and it also scared me because most of the little boys have very bad problems as in Austim ADHD and other learning difficulties my fear would be that kian may copy these little boys, when me and kian went for the visit there was one little boy who kept coming up and screaming in kians face and taking things of him he also took kians car (that he goes no where with out) and hid it under the sand tray, i came home and rang my health visitor and said are yous sugar coating kians problems? or am i blinded my mothers love ? because kian is nothing like the little boys who i just seen, she said no we are not sugar coating kians problem he is a normal little boy who just has speech problems sending him to the special needs school IS NOT IDEAL but because he will get one 2 one help there he will come on better than need in a class of 26 kids in mainstream school.
my head is fryed by all of this i'm so stressed out just don't know what to do for the best

Oh Kitkat that sounds awful! I couldn't send my little girl to a horrible school like that. You must be so stressed by this hun I think I would be tempted to go for the mainstream school if I was in your situation. If you find out about home-schooling, may be he could go to regular school but you could give him extra help at home to make sure he isn't slipping behind? There is lots of info on the internet about how you can help your kids with speech - here's one site I just found: http://www.leomagan.com/site/1388174/page/905737

One of my nephews has dyspraxia, which means he has speech difficulties. He is 4 in October and he only has about 10-15 words now I think. His mum and dad were living in London and the local schools were just the pitts, so they actually ended up moving house to a nicer area so that he would get better help at school. He has had a lot of one-on-one speech therapy and is coming along well. It's a bit of a drastic option I know - but just to show that there are more ways to skin a cat!

U poor thing - u must be so worried. I def wouldn't send my DS to a school like that if he only had speech probs. In Wales there are special teaching assistants that work on a one to one basis with children who are not up to scratch with different things in normal schools. They stick with them until they need them. Personally I think he will flourish in a normal school and soon u won't be able to shut him up. I know it's a completely different situation, but I'm sending my DS to a welsh school and we don't speak welsh, they say within 2 years he will be speaking fluent welsh. My nephew is already there and going into his 2nd year and u would not believe how much welsh he speaks already. My point it, kids learn quickly and adapt to whatever environment they go into. I say follow ur heart and if u kno he doesn't belong in the special school, be adamant and put him where u want

So any more symptoms/signs of AF. Hoping u test soon xx
