Diary of an IUI-er

Old members may recognise the name similar to an old diary of someone elses

My other diary seems rather long now and since were starting a new chapter of this journey i thought id start a new diary.

Those unfamilair with the journey so far, this is the link to the old diary. Its a long read
Arcanegirl's Diary

So had a hospital appointment today for the last part of the IUI screening, all tests are fine and we have the go ahead for whenever we want to start.

To make things easier to explain i will write out the steps as written in my treatment card.

* At start of perios, phone to arrange starting treatment. You will be asked your most recent menstruation date.

* Attend unit for FSH blood test (day 2-5)

* Commence nasal spray on day 21 (Buserelin)

* Period may be different from usual

* Note first day of period

* Attend unit for blood sample and first vaginal scan.

* Daily injections begin

* HCG booster

* Date and time for semen sample from partner to be handed into ACS Suite laboratory. No more injections required after HCG injection.

* Time for IUI

* Commence progesterone pessaries, one to be inserted vaginally morning and evening, leaving 12 hours between each pessary.

* Outcome date, bring urine sample to ACS unit regardless of bleeding.

Ask away

The nasal spray is for teh down regulation.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Buserelin

Buserelin is a Gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRH agonist). By causing constant stimulation of the pituitary, it decreases pituitary secretion of gonadotropins luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). Like other GnRH agonists, buserelin may be used in the treatment of hormone-responsive cancers such as prostate cancer or breast cancer, estrogen-dependent conditions (such as endometriosis or uterine fibroids), and in assisted reproduction.
It is normally delivered via a nasal spray but is also available as an injection.

Well there you go, never heard of that. So was there much to go through to get approved for treatment? I mean will they treat those with PCOS?

We had to go through the standard blood tests a few times (different hospitals), the SA done lots of times, more blood tests and a laparoscopy to get to the decision of IUI.

There is a friend of mine who has been going though cycles of IUI and she has PCOS so it is one of the treatments avalaible.

They didnt really say much to me in relation to PCOS as the signs of me having it dissapeared by the time i got referred to the second hospital (ACS unit)
