Thanks for cheering me on girls - you're all great!
Now something not TTC related! *faints*
Was chatting with OMI (well posting in our journals) and telling OH about all your cats and puppies etc and he said it would be better for me when he was away if we had something for me to look after and cuddle! He's had cats and dogs but I wasn't brought up with animals but i love them when they're little but do you think i will be able to put up with cats bringing me presents and peeing in my house or having to poop-a-scoop for a doggie? I'd love to have a fluff ball - do you think i would just love it sooo much i wouldn't mind these things? I'm trying to be realistic and honest.
If i don't get this month we are going to plan wedding and maybe a pet is something we should seriously consider as well. I'm not going to get one a give it up - it would be for life, so gotta have lots of info from you experts please!

p.s. I forgot to say that one of the farmers kids I teach breeds rabbits and said i should have one - I am scared in case he brings one into school for me - what will i do? Put it in my handbag?

Hehehe ... rabbit in your handbag!!

We have 2 cats and a dog (little girlie cat is expecting kitties soon .. cow bag ... why can she get preggers and I cant?!?)

Our cats are not hassle at all, never pee in the house and are house cats so no nasty dead pressie
The dog I have had for 8 years and is a real character and totally part of our family, I walk in open fields so no poop-a-scoop for me!!

have just ordered you a special delivery peak for tomorrow morning hun!
I think pets are ace - we used to have a dog who was my baby! a dog really becomes your best friend. Not sure about cats - although my brother has got 4 and says they are brilliant fun! good luck though -sounds like a good idea to me. I am desperate for another dog but OH just says NO!!! am trying to convince him with my womanly charms!!! Not working yet though!!!!

Good luck on getting that peak real soon girl!!

As for a pet, yay!! I love animals -- if you want something that is cuddly yet not a big hassle i would definitely go for a kitty -- I like cats & dogs but honestly dogs are way more work & much more demanding. Cats are clean, calm, affectionate yet also independent. Keep us posted on what you decide!

Morning Tansey, what has Kaelia started, shes had me and Wishing begging our OH's for a dog after seeing her cute photo yesterday!!!

Poor OH's!!!

I think a dog is a fantastic idea!! Honestly, got my Boxer dog as soon as I moved out of my folks house (well actually three months before I was sooooo desperate) and it was the best thing I ever did.
At the time OH worked shifts and I wanted security for the house and company if hed be out at night time. He's not the world's greatest gauard dog granted. Hed probably lick a robber to death to be honest but he does all the barking and defensive stuff at the window and door so think its a good deterrent but hes the biggest softie going, hes my giant teddy bear and hes been brought up on loads of cuddles since a pup so think ive made him into the laziest dog ever as he loves to curl up on my bed, even though he takes up half of it and sleep and cuddle me!! So Id say go for it girl, fab idea. Plus people may think im silly saying this but the three months when we first had him, with all the puppy trianing etc i was up every morning at 6 before he peed all over my room etc and so think it was good practice for having a baby anyways. They do say that having a bit of proper responsibility like that is good training for baby time and i think they must be right! All the poo picking up etc is def worth it, I'm pretty squeanish but have had to do all sorts with Buster and dont really mind one bit because always wanted a dog and so you put up with it. They are def worth it, plus what better distraction from the ttc for a bit!
There sermon over!!! Go get that dog!!!
P.S. I say get a dog, cos i havent got cat experience im afraid xxx

that is so right Fran - a dog is JUST like having a baby! they get you up in the night, poo round the clock and need lots of attention whilst they are growing up!! although i don;t think many babies get to poo on the floor and get away with it! or pee up christmas trees like ours used to do - but its all good fun!

I dont think it matters what you get to be honest as there's pros and cons to either.

Im a cat person but mainly due to the fact thats what im used to... in the future can totally see myself with a dog..but that will go with my lovely house in the country..so maybe that wont happen anytime soon, lol.

I love cats cause they never smell- yes i know dog lovers will say their dogs dont, but im sorry, dogs smell, so unless you wanna wash them all the time, i personally couldnt be bothered as seems too much like work - and in glasgow id be doing nothing else as its so rainy and everytime id take it out it bring dirt into the house.

My cats have always been indoors, so no funny 'presents' and no dirt, no high vet bills as dont get into fights or get infected from other animals (cheaper pet insurance!!)

Mine have both been neutered, so no cats smells, i have a covered litterbox and they use it religiously- and when was pg, although indoor cats are excepmt from toxoplasmosis- oh cleaned the litter- he hated it, lol!

They both come when called, they fetch their toys and bring them for me to throw- and back-and on it goes, loads of stuff like that....

I think cats and dogs are both lovely creatures, with very distinct personalities, Mango loves to be carried around and has no problem with me kissing all over his face- he sleeps next to my face- very ticklish whiskers, lol!

I totally baby him and its great. In the end it all depends on the personality of your pet but sometimes i miss one thing with my cats- taking then for a walk,

Having said that, Mango loves walking on a harness and i have taken him out loads, but as i said if you wanna get extra fresh air and go walking loads( good exersice!) a dog is great- on the down side-- who wants to walk around the block in the dark come rain or shine trying to talk your dog into having a wee

So there you are.. I love pets and in a bizarre way (cause i look at him thinking 'aw' he'll be such a good daddy, lol!) , i love oh with them, how he talks to them, cuddles them and plays with them. And spoils them. He will always buy the more expensive food etc, cause' they deserve it' LOL!!

I was the main catalyst for getting them, but oh loves them dearly and now admits its the best thing we ever did. (Pets are also great when you feel sick or down as well.. they totally understand, instinctively and come to you, its so sweet!!)

Dogs and cats are equally lovely, it just depends on what you fall in love with and how you live your life. Mine just seems to work better with cats..but its up to the individual in the end. How can you say no to this

After this ridiculously LONG post i shall finish on this note...

Q: do animals have souls?
A: the word animal comes from the greek for spirit. Enough said!

Get a pet, hunni, you will never regret it, friends for life!!!

Hope you get your peak soon Tansey!

As for the animals, I'd definitely go with a dog but I guess that's because I'm used to dogs, never had a cat. I'm going to be one of the ones who says my dogs dont smell!!!!! Funnily enough, I can smell a cat at 100 metres....

I reckon if you're going to be settling down with a baby (very soon we hope!) then why not have the dog too? You'll get over the poop scooping, don't worry about that. It's never pleasant but you get there!
