Help with Luteal understanding please

Im really confused and abit worried actually. Is it right that your luteal phase is meant to remain the same month after month, its only the follicular phase that could vary from month to month, due to stress, exercise ect...) ??

Well, Ive been looking back at some notes I made on a cycle at the end of last year..my luteal phase was 16days. This time, just gone, was just 11days..with spotting 3days before that too!! To say this phase remains consistant- thats a hell of a change?!
I was posting last week in the 2ww thread saying how positve I was of being pg,had lots of symptoms...then at 7dpo I started with brown CM and ab cramping-which I thought must have been implantation symptoms. Spotting carried on for 3days..looked as if it was stopping...then woke up on 11dpo with gushes of blood. The blood is not normal to what I normally have, its dark red, with brown in there too,and its slimy and a little lumpy looking! When I normally come on it's none of this spotting brown stuff business, it's straight into full flow bright red blood!
Did I possibly miscarry the fertilized egg cos of my short luteal phase? I took a HPT yesterday when the bleeding started,it was but now Im thinking did a fertlized egg get swept away before it was properly implanted,so hormone levels not high enough to be detected?

I just don't know what to think anymore. Id prefer to just think that got me early and move onto cycle 2 but I can't cos it doesn't sit right with me!

Any thoughts please girls? Anyone experience same?

I would say that your LP runs from the day after O till you get the 1st red flow.
Although some books do say your LP is always 14 days and that it never alters this is not really true in the context of real life and real people.

I for example have a LP of 9-12 days ... it differs month to month and since I use a CBFM I can pinpoint O pretty accurately.
I have NEVER had a 14 day LP

Many things can alter your LP .. stress, different vits and mins ... hormone levels.

Until implant you simply cannot have pg symptoms ... there is nothing happening in your body to cause them. Some people do get implant spotting but its really quite rare and usually just spotting at the end of the cycle that mistaken for implant bleeding ... on cycles where my LP goes down to 9-10 days I can have spotting from 6dpo ....

This does cause concern that due to early spotting a fertilized egg will get 'washed away' ... although my Dr was pretty sure that if the egg did implant the likely hood of it being 'washed away' was very slim. An 11 day LP, even with spotting should be enough time for the eggy to get stuck in, so to speak.

In your case I'm sorry to say I think AF got you early .. all your symptoms can be contributed to early AF and the hormones for that, rather than pg.

sorry chick

Thanks for quick reply.
Everything Ive read about the luteal phase says that whilst every woman is different and their lenghts will vary, each length of your own LP should remain the same each month?! So this is wrong? Oooohhhh this ttc is so time consuming and mind confuddling!!
