Got pcos starting on provera and clomid, weight loss with pcos?

Hello
Am a bit new to this but wanted to know how others have got on this medication. Eventually got my full diagnosis of pcos a few months ago but have had my suspicions for years!

Very fortunate to get pregnant first time with my last pregnancy - periods have always been irregular to the extent that I had 2 a year in 2003 and 2004 - through acupuncture, chinese medicine and nutrititional supplements got my periods back to about a 40 to 60 day cycle. Conceived first month in jan 05.

Now trying for second but taking the more western route as am 39 this year. Still going for acupuncture and taking supplements. Periods came back after birth but not ovulating as often now - last cycle was 76 days. My egg reserve is very good though.

Dr started me on 25 mg of clomid last month but blood tests confirmed this didn't work - saw him on friday and he wants me to take provera for 5 days to bring on a period then take a higher dose of clomid 50mg on cd3-7.

He mentioned my weight again -- by bmi is 34 - has anyone else had success after losing some weight? I know I need to but my partner doesn'thave a job at the moment and I'm on a fixed term contract until theend of april - so everything is a bit stressful at the moment! If you do have pcos - what weight loss programmes or exerciseworked for you?

I know the gl approach is meant to work but didn't know if there's anything else I should be doing.

Thanks for any advice!

Hi highlandlass

I too have PCOS, i have found that a low GI Diet is the best thing for PCOS.. It works a treat..

I am overweight too and have been on the low GI Diet for the last 10 months, although have strayed a little and have put weight back on, but originally lost a good 1st within the first 3 months...

Hope this helps, if you need any more tips, please email or PM me..

Sarah xx

Hello Hun

I am on the atkins diet as I need to get the weight off before they even prescribe chlomid. Started 15th December and have gone from 17 stone which as been the biggest as I gained 3 stone during pregnancy. Sadly my angel was still born on 22 nd oct 09. I am now down to 15 stone 8lb in just over a month. It as worked for me and is not an expensive diet to follow. Only found out last Monday I have pcos but knew for the last month my hormones were all wrong. I have read a low carb diet is the best way to go with pcos don't know how true it is. I know atkins is not popular but if you cook your meat in one cal spray and cut the fat off the meat it all helps. I am starting the gym this week, cheap and cheerful council gym.

Hope it all goes well Hun and keep us updated how it goes
hugs
nat x

Nat you've been really misinformed. You should not follow low carb diet, is really bad for pcos. You need to follow low GI which is eating carbs but ones that are slow releasing and easy to digest. Stop the atkins! Highland, I have pcos too and am running a weight loss journal with a few of the other girls on here. Feel free to join us, it's in ttc journals. And get a book called pcos for dummies. Packed with nutrition info. My friend has it too, tried for 3 years. Them gave up smoking and lost weight and is now 19 weeks. And just noticed this thread is a year old and you're up the duff. Congrats! X

YES! I am loving You DragonMummy...I tried for almost 16 years. I was Obese and had given up on another baby. Then I had health problems diabetes, sleep apnea, high cholesterol... I went on a Low GI diet, walked 3 miles aday, hopped on my treadmill in the mornings for 45 minutes. Lost 45 lbs (on clomid entire time)and became pregnant.... So it can happen...Trust me I was not super thin either... Baby Dust To All!
