MMR jabs? How often do you have them?

I've just read that's it's best to keep your MMR jab up to date when TTC but I think I had one about age 14 (12 years ago) but I don't knoe if they are like tetnus (every 10 years). Anyone got any idea?

I thought MMR was a once only jab.My daughter has just had it and we were told she would be protected for life, barring immune system problems.

I defo had a booster in school. I've read that people who work with kids have to have them as well. I think I should be ok, but I read the other day that there has been a big increase in measles and I don't want to contract them if i am lucky enough to get pregnant.

OK, a quick bit of research shows what you receive in school is not a booster.....its a secondary dose to 'protect' anyone who didn't get fully covered previously. Thats it...all you need.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MMR_vaccine

In fact, seeing as Rubella is known to be a bit of a nasty risk to pregnant women, its advised against any contact with it, inc vaccination in pregnancy.

I think it is just rubella that you need to check you are vaccinated against. I had a blood test before ttc to check that i was immune to it.
hope that helps

Hi, I recently went to my doctor to get implanon out to ttc and he advised me to get MMR again (had one is school) as a booster, because it will give extra cover to baby in future.

I recently read though that if you have MMR you shouldnt ttc for at least a month after it, although there is no evidence to show that any babies have been harmed by their mums having MMR before or during pregnancy.

I just had it as he advised me to and as he was the family planning doctor i took his advise, but i havent heard of anyone else getting that before they ttc. you could ask and see, but may delay ttc.

ttc - mmr jab

?? everyone here is talking about a month wait after the mmr? I was told by the nurse that I MUST wait 3 months otherwise the baby will be born with deformities. The leaflet she provided, which comes with the vaccine, stated that very clearly too.

I ensured that I went for all my test before I got pregnant. Even for MMR and the result came back that I was. However, when I got pregnant and had another blood test I was told that my protection was 'low titre' so it must be updated asap, after I delivered.

However, I started to breast feed and if you are still breastfeeding you can not have the vaccine until your baby has had his 1st MMR jab which is when he is one years old.

Even then there are two doses of the Jab. You have the first one then wait a whole month to have the other one. After that second dose you must wait 3 months.

All of this is highly annoying because the first time you have that Jab it should cover you fully for life.

Hence everyone, it takes a simple blood test to find out if you are immune fully. When requesting the blood test you must mention that you want your level of immunity tested. Otherwise the result comes back as simply protected stated on it.

Hope this helps someone. Start with the folic acid, vitamin D and Calcium 3 months before you try to conceive.

Good Luck!
