Okay, so I bought a basal thermometer the other day and this morning was the first time I used it. My temp came up as 96.33 fahrenheit, is this a reasonable temp? I know it'll be a little bit different for everyone...and I'll obv have to get a few more readings before I know my 'norm'.... but.....hmm...

...My room is freezing cold, so when I popped the thermometer under my arm (is this an okay way to take my temp too?) it was icy cold. I left it until it beeped and it still felt 'burning' cold...

This is going to be pants if the cold in my room is going to effect the accuracy of the reading.

Any other tips?

You shouldnt do it under your arm, its unreliable.

Either orally or vaginally is the most reliable, and the temp of your room wont effect it

You sure? Because the end of the thermometer is metal (thus why it's freezing cold) and if it doesn't warm to (normal) room temperature whilst under my arm before it reads my temp, then surely it's going to be reading a lower temp? Eg it's freezing cold, I place it under my arm, the coldness makes the place under my arm cold where it's sitting, therefore it's not reading my core temp as it's still transferring this coldness between arm and itself?

I suppose this could perhaps be eliminated by doing it orally...then I'd be able to tell if it were still cold feeling when it read my temp..

That's what happened this morn though, it still felt cold to me when it beeped my final temp..so surely it should to be warmed up to my temp when it takes the reading??? Thus I shouldn't really be able to feel a temperature difference.

It doesnt need to be warm or cold, it is reading a temperature, not reaching the temperature it's self.

Yes vaginally is said to be the most reliable, but orally is almost as reliable, but under no circumstances is anywhere else reliable

Do you have ff? cause these two ways are the only ways that it will accept to read your temps x

......How can it accurately read a temperature if the point where it's reading a temperature is a completely different temperature to the temperature it's meant to be reading? That sentence does make sense. Promise.

Bah. So I have to stick an icy cold bit of metal into my hoo-haa every morning as soon as I wake up?! That sounds like....fun? *brrr*

Just do it orally, it's almost as sensitive

I dunno why it dont warm up, but I've always had accurate readings (I doubled tested to make sure with a diff thermometer) and my metal nib was cold, and my glass thermometer wasnt so I dunno lol

Do your bedroom windows freeze up in the night?

My thermometer literally felt like it had been in the freezer. I mean.......my temp must've balanced out for it to actually save the reading? Mustn't it? =/ Bah, I always have to make everything so complicated!

I'll just keep trying, and do orally. =/ Yum.

its just how the metal reacts... metal just doesn't warm up as quickly if it can transfer the heat somewhere else... but yeah doing it under your arm pit won't work. You have to do it orally or vaginally. Trust me theres a lot of things you have to sacrifice to have a baby and apparently having a cold vagina is now one of them lol.

That's what I was thinking though. The fact that I can feel the cold, means the metal is transferring the cold to my warm arm! Which means that my arm is getting colder, surely? In the spot where the metal is touching...+ taking the temperature from----...Myah, makes no difference.. I'll try orally anyway. Lol! I don't think, in my already cold house, having a cold vagina sounds particularly appealing!!
