First Disappointment

Hi Ladies,

Just feeling a little sad, we've been TTC since September and to be honest not exactly going at it (that doesn't sound good! but you know what I mean!)

I've not been using any OV kits etc, though to be honest I haven't really got a clue where to start with all of this!

Anyway this month we had worked out exactly when the best time to would be and I've been feeling as sick as a dog, sore boobs and beyond tired and I just quietly thought... maybe.

But then this morning 5 days early! And even though we've only just started trying and I apologise to those ladies who've been trying for forever for sounding so petty I couldn't help but feel a little sad.

I have always had a feeling it wouldn't be a quick process for us - OH is a chef, i'm overweight etc! But for a few days I couldn't help but start to feel relief x

Anyway not telling many people we are trying and don't want him to feel worried or pressured so just thought I would tell the people who I know will understand xxx

Hi Sarah, Welcome to the weird and wonderful world of TTC.
You can chat on here about absolutely anything and no-one would blink and eye lid.

Have you recently come off any kind of birth control?

I ask that as when the pill leaves your system your body will throw all kinds of symptoms at you.

Strange though isn't it we spend the best part of our live believing that sex without a condom guarantees pregnancy - we used the pill and condom for years to prevent unexpected pregnancy, only to find what should be the most natural thing in the world actually takes most couple 6-12 cycles.

Try not to get too down about it, trust me i know it's easier said than done.

Thanks Ladies, really appreciate the advice!!

I've been off the pill since mid August after being on it since I was 17... I'm now 27 and very nearly 28!

My periods are still not back to normal, completely different length cycles every time!

Actually ladies another question, do you all get the same length cycles everytime?

No they're not

i came off the pill in march after 13 years i was 15 when i went on it and i'm now 28 and i'm on my fifth cycle TTC.

Please don't take me for the norm as i am not, normally cycles will get back to normal in 6 months.
I have had 4 complete cycles so far the first was 81 days followed by 56, 65, 47. i've charted my recent two and the 47 day cycle i didn't ovulate at all. look at the charts in my link if you like.

You might find it useful to chart a few cycles it will help you to highlight if there are any issues. It's helped me loads in getting a good response from my GP.
It is also useful if your GP has you as TTC on record should you need any advice - i needed to get alot of my meds changed to pg safe alternatives before we could start trying.

EDIT:
in response to the last question the first part of your cycle is variable, but the part following your ovulation should be consistent

Hey you! I feel the same way. Also TTC since September... Not going as planned. is late, but I am spotting for 4 days and I am sure she will come eventually. I will then be entering cycle 3 of TTC. Also overweight, DP is quite slim, but eats a lot of junk that he should not...

This month I have done OPKs and charting... I realise it won't happen when we want, but it will happen when we least expect. So relax. It only gets serious after you are TTC for more than 1 year. xx Good luck and loads of baby to you!

Once your body readjusts to being off the pill, if everything is working normally, you should have somewhat regular cycles (the same length within a few days). The number of days between AF and when you ovulate (the Follicular Phase) may vary a little. The number of days between ovulation (Luteal Phase, LP on here) and AF, should be the same with only a day variation if any at all. Normal LP length is 12-16 days, 14 being average. 10-12 is still okay but a little short. Anything less than 10 days can't sustain a pregnancy.

Go to Fertility Friend online and check out their fertility handbook. It has tons of useful info and may give you some ideas about how to start monitoring your cycles. What you do should depend on what you are comfortable with. I did pretty much everything: BBT charts, CM and CP charting, opks, got o pain... it still took me 6 months to concieve! The waiting sucks! But you will get there!

No need to worry about how long it has been hun, no matter the length it is still hard to be trying and not get the one thing we wish for. I came off the pill in September and have been trying since then (not long at all comparably speaking). I myself find this such a hard and frustrating process, when you are younger you always think that as soon as you stop using protection.... bam your pregnant... unfortunately as many women know that is not the case and such a natural process can take much longer and sometimes need so help to get going. This is only my second cyle and I don't think I've evn ovulated this month (going on cm only and dates). Good luck in ur ttc and hoping its not too long for u.
