Using CBFM after a Miscarriage


Hi Ladies, Sorry to bring the mood down by mentioning the "M" word, however I had a miscarriage last week and I'm very eager to start trying again. I want to use my CBFM (I cannot praise it enough, I tried 10 months to conceive and it happened on the 2nd month of using the monitor) however I know that it shouldn't be used staight after a miscarriage because of the pregnancy hormones which might still be hanging around. I think my CBFM only has one full month of data being the first month that I used it when I didn't get pregnant. I didn't hit the "m" button at the end of the 2nd month, as I found out I was pregnant, however, like an idiot I did hit the "m" button five days after my miscarriage thinking I could use it again straight away, but it obviously wont get any data this cycle if I don't use it (I hope this all makes sense!). So my question is this, when I do get my first period after the miscarriage is it safe just to set the "m" button to the start of a cycle as normal, or should I reset the machine properly and start from scratch again? Also, did anyone use their CBFM straight after a miscarriage and if so, did it work correctly? Many thanks.

Hi Mair,

So sorry for your loss.

I started to use mine just like normal when i got my af again (it did say though day 99 on it when i turned it on, lol). Keep in mind however, that there is no such thing as normal (for the vast majority of women) after a mc and the cbfm might therefore ask for more or less sticks due to this (as your cycles might change in every conceivable way, lenght, cramps, flow etc.)

Anywhoo, its a clever little machine and will change accordingly and should you have any probs always check the website faqs page. The general advice is to wait at least 2 months. I didnt but i did check my hcg levels to get a negative hpt before i tried again as obviously i wouldnt ov until the hormones were out of my body (in which case you can use the cbfm no probs )

Hi Omi,

Thanks for your reply and congratulations on your pregnancy following your miscarriage - hope it goes well this time.

The CBFM is certainly cleverer than me, the user! so I'll trust that everything will be fine when I do come to use it again. Thanks again.
