Reluctant Husband

Hi all,

Need a bit of advice. My husband and I have been trying to start a family for 18 months now and nothing is happening! I think we need to get checked out by the doctor but my husband is really reluctant to have this done as he doesn't think we have a problem. I'm really struggling at the moment as 3 of my friends have recently announced they are adding to their families and I'm finding it difficult to be happy for them! Has any one else managed to persuade their partner to go for testing and how did you do it? Also how do you try not to be jealous when other people are getting what you want?

Hi Mechelle

Welcome to the forum

I don't think it's uncommon for the man to react that way for a start it's accepting there 'might' be a problem & worst of all 'who'.

There are some things you could explore from your own home before seeing a GP.

Male fertility tests
Female fertility tests
OPKS - Ovulations prediction kits (use like a pregnancy test)
Charting your temp every morning to pin point ovulation

Hi Michelle,

Next week, i'm getting DH's sperm tested for quality and count etc.

If you make the appointment with the doctor and he gives you the pathology slip and the specimen cup, would he give the sample and you take it in?

I think you just need to reassure him that there probably isn't a problem, but you want to rule it out anyway. Also, explain to him that this is less invasive than your tests might be.

Reassure him that IF there is a problem its better to find out now so that you can get any treatment available, and that its no-ones fault if there is a prob...that you will both get through it together.

In regards to being jealous about other pregnant women - I can't answer that as I am feeling exactly the same way! You can't help how you feel, so don't be hard on yourself for feeling jealous. Its completely normal

Thank you for the advice, he has finally relented to going to the doctors if things don't go as planned this month. It's ovulation time again and a bank hol weekend . . . if you know what I mean!
