Question about coming off the pill

I've been told that you are most fertile as soon as you come off the pill but I have also read that it takes some people a while to fall pregnant after coming off because your body still needs time to adjust (or something like that). I know that my friend got pregnant as soon as she came off but I just want to know if it is true that you are most fertile then or if it is a myth and some people just get lucky?

Hi there, I came off at the beginning of May, started ttc properly, July and nothing yet. ( came this morn) I thought it'd be really quick to fall, guess i was a little naive. I was only on bcps for a year. xxx

I am just as frustrated. Came off the pill at the beginning of July. My cycle has been all over the place. No from me either. I think that us BCP gals need to stick together - ha.

it took 6 months after i came off the pill to conceive so i think ur body needs time to get used to being off the pill and for ur periods to become more normal

I suppose it just goes to show that everyone is different. As I said, my friend got pregnant straight away and both my mum and MIL both got pregnant 2 months after being off the pill. I'm hoping that I'll follow in their footsteps. I was on the pill for about 10 years though but I did get my period after 24 days this time (previously it took at least 6 weeks) so I think that's a good sign of possibly having regular periods, although I suppose it's too soon to tell. I'll keep you updated with any if and when it happens! And I'm desperate for it to be this month!!!

I think that a percentage of women do become fertile just after stopping the pill - as their hormones level out etc, increased progesterone, O etc ... but for the majority of women I have spoken to it takes a while for the pill to work out of our bodies and everything to 'settle down'

I stopped bcp (after around 16 years including combined pill for majority then depo for 7 years then cezarette for 1 year) at end of June and it took until middle of August for AF to arrive - around 7 weeks. I did use opk's and af arrived 14 days after pos opk.

However I think I ovulated a week ago according to opk which was around cycle day 16. Other than that I have no idea how long or regular my cycle is going to be!

Hope that helps

Sorry to hear about your MC.

I came off the pill in March this year, I have my withdrawal bleed as normal then it took 81 days for to show her face. then she decided to take a vaction until 11th August (56days) and i'm now CD29 and hoping for a or to show her face at a more 'normal' interval so we can start trying properly (we are frequently but as i can't pintpoint my o and cycle length its a bit touch and go)

Note: I was on the combined pill for 13years.

Thanks littlestar. We are just taking each day as it comes now. No stressing over when decides to show. If it happens it happens!!!
