she has been pregnant before about 5 years ago and had a termination

shes overweight, 18st and 5ft 10

No not necessarily. Just because you have a period isn't a sign of ovulation. Being overweight can affect ovulation. "The impact of weight on ovulation has to do with the production of estrogen. Research suggests that for women who are overweight, the extra fat tissue can lead to an excess production of estrogen. This excess estrogen can then cause a hormonal imbalance that affects ovulation."

I would say she needs to see a doc as she could do with getting some informed advice. x.

I agree with Newbie77 3 years at her age is a very long time, she really should see her doctor.

You can have regular periods and not O, basically it means her body prepares the lining of her uterus for a baby and on her period it get's discarded. She does not need to O to have a period.

Has she put on weight since 5 yers ago?? Lots of things can change in 5 years.

Temping/charting may also help her see if shes ov'ing. If no temp rise either, then very suggestive of anovulatory cycles. Unusual for them to be regular as clockwork though, as often cycles without ovulation are irregular, but its not impossible.

Some evidence says that even small amounts of weight loss (6-10kg) can start ovulation again, so if she wants to diet that could help too.

I agree with the others though. Most docs will investigate after a year with no sucess, so 3 yrs definitely qualifies. Is she worried about going to the docs or just not thought of it?
