At what point does TTC become 'Long term'

I was wondering ....

If AF arrives in the next couple of day (which I think she might .. just a hunch) then we will be into 10 months of unsuccessful TTC .. is that long term?
Or just medium term?
It feels long term but in the grand plan and compared to other ladies journey's isn't that long ............

me ... in a negative mood ..no

i don't know.. i suppose i'd call long term as 12 months and over! have you been trying.. really trying for 10 months? or did you start off by saying "if it happens it happens"? i think when i started trying for my little boy i didn't really try the first 3 or 4 months,, and then i'd have months where we'd miss ovulation as DH would be working nites... it took us about 12 months i think but then i wouldn't say we tried very hard on certain months.. good luck

I think most Dr's will look into it if you have been trying for 12months +

Good luck with TTC

It certainly feels 'long-term' doen't it hun!
Reading some literature provided in another thread by Suzanne - the NHS give statistics for couples conceiving upto 18months and then they will refer you unless there are other reasons to refer you earlier such as CD21 test showing no OV or abnormal sperm analysis.
Hang in there hun, you're not out yet!

I'm in the middle of my 9th cycle so I'm not far behind you. I have to confess there are days when it feels long term and then I feel guilty because there are others who really are very long term. I guess it's all relative to where you're at yourself.

In medical terms I suspect long term is probably 18+ months, but personally I think a year must be a really tough time. Of course on the days I'm feeling more positive I know I'll get my BFP before I reach a year of TTC

Hope you don't have to wait too much longer for your BFP.

We were having what the books call 'targeted intercourse' pretty much from the word go .. around CD16 ish ... although i have later found I O about CD20 ...
But even from the word 'go' we were pretty serious
Ha ... hell of a lot more serious now!!!

Thank you ladies for your thoughts and opinions, your all fab

We've been ttc for 12 months now...so I've tentatively dipped my toes into the LTTC board. I have to say though, I feel a bit of a fraud there, as there are ladies who've been ttc for years and years, and I felt ungrateful for not accepting 1 year as normal. But it certainly feels like LTTC to me when some friends have had time to get preg AND have the baby since we started trying. Even the ones who 'weren't even trying' and had only been together for 5 minutes are now babied up.

Medically speaking, docs will usually see you after 12 months, and will refer you to a specialist after 18 months (stats say that 90% of couples will be preg within 18 months...and 95% within 2 years). Having said that, my doc said that, depending on my blood test results tomorrow, he'll be happy to refer us to the specialist straight away as we've been doing all the right things for 12 months and still no luck.

Sorry I haven't really answered your question, hun, but at least it's another viewpoint! Has turned up for you yet?
