Caffeine in pregnancy

Hi

Not pregnant....... yet! However, I love my coffee and couldn't go without my fix in the morning. I've read so many different reports about what you can and can't drink and the quantities and I am confused.

How much coffee/tea/coke/chocolate can you have?

Also, if you are ttc, should you still observe this as potentially you might be pregnant and not know it.

xx

you can have 300mg per day (same as 3 mugs of coffee).
The problem is when people not only drink coffee but also cola drinks and tea.
When I was pregnant I didn't drink any coffee during the first trimester and substituted with green tea (only one cup). Caffeine during first pregnancy is linked to higher risk of M/C so I didn't want to risk.
But I know people that drank coffee without problems. Just be aware of the quantity.

When I fell pregnant I actually went of tea which was lucky, but yes it is best to avoid it, see if you can get a bit of a taste for decaf? I dont think one of two would hurt but there was a medical trial saying it was linked to potential problems. x

Luckily I dont drink soft drinkas at all, I am a lover of green tea and the odd english / earl grey tea and my coffee intake is max 3 cups coffee a day in general. If I fall preggers tho will prob give the coffee a skip...

mariucha77 is right, 3 cups is suppossed to be the limit. I started to drink coffee when i went out to meet other new mums, but then realised that the day after i drank coffee my daughter would have a bad tummy. It must have been passed to her through the breast milk, the same with chocolate!!! So it's not just while your pregnant, you need to watch what you drink if you breastfeed.

coffee is one of thows things that you can have but cant have we say 3-4 cups is fine as long as it is not vv strong. there is nothing to say that it is bad when preg.

I'm sorry to say that I would be able to give up my Diet Pepsi. I will cut back - but I won't give it up. I don't have any other bad habits - besides eating peanut butter in excess, ha - I do believe you will find plenty of studies on the net supporting both sides of this issue - it's a tough one for sure. But I am not willing to leave my friend Diet Pepsi.
