is it ok to donate blood during 2WW?

I was thinking of going to donate blood today - as they've been asking for ages and I have had lots on.

the thing is, I'm in my 2WW - will donating blood be ok? It there is a chance I'm pregnant will it do some harm, like altering hormone levels or something? I'm not sure what to do!

It won't affect your chances of conceiving or harm a baby if you are already PG but if you are going to go through 9 months of pregnancy, I'd avoid it. Many pregnant women develop what is known as a 'physiological anaemia', that is they are technically anaemic (low red blood cell count) on their blood results but they still have an OK number of red blood cells in the blood, it's just dilutional because of the extra circulation fluid required for the baby. Giving away some of your own red blood cells before pregnancy (although the body would usually make the levels back up to normal in a couple of months anyway) might make you even more tired and you'll need all your strength for that 9 months!
