Evra patch

Anyone over 30 who was on the contraceptive patch?
I was on it for about 4 years and came off it in Nov07, used condoms until Jan then got pg 1st month trying but sadly had MC. Now i'm 36 in Sep and i've been trying for 6months since MC and i'm obviously getting impatient. I just wondered what anyone elses cycles have been like since coming off it because i don't think i've still got it in my system like the pill - isn't it lower dosage because it went directly into the blood system or something?

Basically i want to go back to docs and moan if this cycle doesn't work so i'm gathering info!

Thanks! xx

Yes I was on it Tansey up until Dec, so that would have been about 4yrs. It suited me due to getting a dodgy tummy too often and also get chest infections so frequent that I need antibiotics and the patch is still ok through all this. I started monitoring my cycles as like you I was concerned as knew we wanted to ttc straight away. My cycles have ranged from 21-32 days and have now settled down to 24. They have stayed that way for the past 3-4 months. I also did some research, but info is limited. I did find that s statement was released in 2005 about increased levels of exposure to oestrogen...

"According to the FDA, women who use the patch are exposed to 60% more estrogen than those who are taking a more conventional birth control pill. This significantly increased their risk of life-threatening blood clots, fatal heart attacks, pulmonary embolisms, and other serious health problems. Greater exposure to estrogen, the FDA said, is a know risk of blood clots because estrogen promotes blood coagulation."

...but nothing that it affects fertility. In fact everything I have read said it shouldn't, but they would say that.

Type in evra into the search on BnB, there is my thread plus another to get some other peoples thoughts.

Hope this helps Tansey, good luck...x.

Just been doing some digging and also found this...

"If you stop using this patch and want to get pregnant, a return to normal ovulation can take some time. You may not return to normal ovulation and fertility for 3 to 6 months. Discuss your pregnancy plans with your health care provider."

Also a number of complaints on this site... http://www.topix.com/forum/drug/orth...NLSCTRTT1C/p15

http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/HL0609/S00317.htm

As with any contraceptive, there are always scare stories, but just for your info and need to read stories objectively.

Hope your system settles down soon...x.
