I'm Currently Feeling: | The Marina Coil Hi ladies,
Has anyone here ever had the marina coil? I had mine removed in April and have been ttc since. I was wondering how long it took to conceive after having it removed. I know its possible straight away but i would love to hear other people's experience. I'm not even sure i'm ovulating to be honest and my periods are all over the place, i've only had 1 visit from the in all these months (not including the bleed i had once removed).
Look forward to hearing your replies Netty x |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Hi, I had the mirena coil removed in October and have been ttc since so it's taking me a while. It took me quite a while for my cycles to settle down after having it removed. I had 3 really long cycles - about 50 days each before settling down to the 33 day cycle I've got at the moment.
Anyway, everyone is different and I've heard lots of stories of people conceiving very quickly, whereas other women take longer - sorry bit of a wishy washy answer!
I hope your cycles settle down soon. I'm sure they will. I started taking my temps - helped me keep track of things and establish that I was ovulating.

I'm Currently Feeling: | Hi. I have never had the marina coil fitted but when i was in hospital after I had had my 2nd baby the midwife tried to convince me to have it fitted - she said that it "shouldn't" interfer with fertility as technically you could get pg whilst wearing it but the coil stops it from implanting.....so you carry on oving as normal. Sorry this is not a very good answer - but she was basically telling me that once you have it removed your cycles should just carry on as normal! good luck hun - hope someone can shed some light on it for you. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Well Im pretty angry about the Mirena to be honest! I had it in April 2004 and didnt have any periods for the time it was in place. I was told that there would be absolutely no problems of effects - that my fertility would return too normal as soon as it was removed.
I had it out May 2007 and have been ttc ever since. My periods just do their own thing! My first took 19 weeks, then 16 weeks, 10 weeks then back up to 12 weeks!!! At this point my doctor referred me to a fertility specialist. I then fell pregnant but had a miscarriage! Now they are just saying I should see how I go for 6 months before they do any more tests. My cousin also had a Mirena and has suffered two m/c in only a few months. Am i just cynical that there could be a link?
Im sorry - I dont want to put any doubt in your mind as I have read in so many cases people falling pregnant REALLY soon after the coil is removed. And I hope hope hope that you are one of those ladies. It just makes me angry that there isnt more warning about the possible side effects of the coil - just give women the bigger picture so they can make an informed decision...?
Sorry that turned into a rant! Thanks for raising this thread. Im really interested to hear other peoples experiences too!
Good luck everyone!!! |

| I can't remember if mine was Mirina or Paragard (It was non-hormonal one) but I had it out in Oct. but didn't start TTC until Jan. I assumed I would get prego right away, took me till my May cycle, ended in MC at 7w5d. I had 2 MC a few years ago, BEFORE the IUD, so I didn't figure it was related but interesting to see so far 3 out of 4 ladies (including myself) have had MC. Not trying to rain on your parade, probably should have just said that comment, but just found it interesting for my own MC and body knowledge....
Good luck to you!!!!!!! |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I was told it's about a year before you're back to normal after the Mirena.
Mine is the non-hormonal one (can't do hormonal contraceptives, they send me loopy whatever form they're in) but I seem to remember that from the information I was given before it was fitted. | | | | Status: Offline

| Hey Sneetyb-I was thinking since a lot of the ladies on the TTC board are probably going to either be talking about not getting prego yet or having MC and still TTC, i wonder if this post would be good to put on the pregnancy board (if thats allowed) and then those ladies could be the ones to tell of success stories and time frames...
Just a thought since this thread is starting to get depressing, isn't it. We don't seem to be having much luck after the IUD... |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I had the Mirena in for three years, had it taken out in January and then went on the pill for various reasons for a few months. As soon as I came off that, got my . As far as I'm aware, there are no long term complications relating to fertility; once it's out, you can in theory conceive. I appreciate that it may well take your body a few cycles to adjust though. I also haven't heard about there being reports of an increased risk of miscarriage after you have them removed... Having said that, it won't be my contraceptive of choice in the future! Mood swings and tummy ache - bleurgh! |
