new to ttc ?'s about luteal phase

hi all, this is my first post but have been lurking for a while and have already learnt loads from you guys so thanks!

anyway just wondered how ong everyones luteal phase is?

i am 14dpo and tests have all bee bfn (so far) but have no idea how long my luteal phase is?

bit of background - am 24 i came of the pill at the end of may, had previously always had had really irregular periods. had withdrawal bleed start of June. got some ov and preg tests from ebay so tooka few ov tests randomly, first few were all completly neg, but one day felt a bit odd so took ov test and it was positive, so we bd. Anyway that was 14 days ago, last weekend i was convinced i was having symptoms very sore nipples, sickness tired and pulling cramp type pains. this last week they have eased off and thought i must have got it wrong, but now have a few cramp pains but not too bad and relly not sure whats going on

sorry for rambling x

Hiya

The usual Luteal phase length is anywhere from 12-16 days but you'd get a much better idea what yours is if you started temping. What CD are you on now? (from 1st day of your last period) x

Wow that's a long cycle!

Sorry hun im not gonna be much help as i don't know about long cycles, but maybe you should try testing for pregnancy if you think you ovulated 2wks ago?

Good luck hun, but im sure someone else will be along to give you better advice soon xx

Hi

The luteal phase is usually 12-16 days and is usally fairly constant, even if the first half of the cycle varies month to month. It's unusual for it to be much longer than this and you don't want it to be much shorter, otherwise there is little time for implanatation etc

My periods were always irregular and then i was on the pill for years. When I came off they were irrgeular again but since TTC I've kept more of a picture/tried charting etc

In fact, they aren't irregular - they just seem that was cos they are soooo long and I have the occasional anovulatory cycle. They are always roughly 40-46 days, but I have had one recently that was only 32 days and I don't think I ovulated that month as I didn't have any changes in CM etc

Anyway, my advice is to monitor your cycle for a few months to see what 'your cycles' are like. I ovulate roughly 4 weeks in to my cycle and then have a period 2 weeks later. It would be very unusal to have a 4 week luteal phase, so you are probably the same as me, but it's best to get a feel by temping etc In fact, we've given up charting now, but I liked doing it at the start to see what my cycles were like.

Using OPKs is expensive with a long cycle, so those would be up to you. I had a few random goes too, but they aren't really designed to work like that, so I gave up!

For this cycle, I think you'll have to play it by ear and keep doing what you are doing. ie keep testing if AF doesn't show.

I hope that's helpful! And it's nice to find someone else with a long cycle. Ask me anything else if you have more questions.

Best of luck x
