I'm Currently Feeling: | Waiting for AF and Being Poorly. . . We are ttc and was due my on Monday.
Anyways, to cut a long story short, I went to the Doctors today about something unrelated and they told me I have another Kidney Infection.
This will be my 3rd in 6 months!! I have been given a course of antbiotics and sent for a scan in 2 weeks.
I asked when the doctor prescribed my tablets IF I was pregnant would the tablets do any harm. . she said no but Im nervous!!
She told me to take them because If I am pregnant and still have the infection it could cause me to miscarry anyway.
I realise Its alot of 'Ifs' but Im definatly worried. What do you all think I should do?? I realise I should take the tablets but. . . Oh I just dunno!! x | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | Yes and then take the anti-biotics regardless of the outcome otherwise you could make yourself really ill. Google the make/name of the anti-biotic and see what it says online. Good luck testing and don't be too disappointed if it doesn't show BFP yet - as you said, you still could be and it's not showing! |

I'm Currently Feeling: | In all honesty there's very few meds that your body can't take when pregnant or breastfeeding. The warnings on the packets tend to be because the drugs companies haven't tested sufficiently in pregnant and lactating mothers to cover their backsides in this 'sue me' culture we live in.
Don't forget baby in the first few weeks is fed and protected by a yolk sac and after that the placenta is a fab filter. And when breastfeeding, you'd be surprised how little medication can get through into breastmilk....and even if it does, is actually quite safe for baby, as it is not digested as it doesn't pass into babies body through the gut.
For example, a well known thrush treatment says on the packet "Not advisable for use in pregnancy or breastfeeding" However, if a baby is born with oral thrush, the very same drug used to treat it!
Granted there are just a few meds that can heighten the risk of mc, but any doctor would simply not give those out as there are many safer alternatives available.
As a general rule of thumb, if meds say " Do not take during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless advised by a doctor" the drug companies are in essence handing the responsibilyt of on the docotr there and it is likely to be safe. Another 'get out' for them is "Not advisabvle for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding" as they hide behind the 'advised' banner.
If it says "Do not take when pregnant", then best avoided. The sad reality of the matter is that pregnant and lactating women are a small enough part of their target market and full scale safey testing costs so much, that one questionable incident with a hot enough solicitor and righteous enough judge would wipe out their profits in that sector. Its purely business...however sad that may be.
Your doctor simply wouldn't give you anything that ws even questionable having identified that there maybe a chance of a pregnancy. And the health of the baby is largely dependant on the health of the mother....so thats a pretty good reason to make sure, even if you think there's a chance you could be pg, you clear up any problem. |
