Long cycle - how long before I see the doctor?

hi, I'm a newbie, nice to meet you all!
I've been directed here to ask a question.

I stopped taking the BCP at the end of February (I was on it for 10 years). I was quite worried out what my period would be like, as I remember I had very irregular and long periods. So I started monitoring BBT and CM as well as trying OPKs right from the start. Since Feb I have only had one AF. My first cycle lasted 64days (with only 9day luteal phase), and now I'm on my second cycle, day 65, and still no sign of ovulation. I keep telling myself I should wait just a little bit longer before heading to my doctor, but still, these cycles are way too long... what do you girls think?

I just wish my body would hurry up and decide to either ovulate or AF!

anybody else had such long/irregular cycles after BCP? and for how many months?
the problem is mine were like this before BCP as well, so I don't think it's all due to that...

You sound like me......3 years ago. I had 15 years on BCP, then came off to 60 day cycles, ovulating somewhere after 50 each time!

After about 3 or 4 times my cycle had shortened - I was taking pre-conception vitamins so they could have helped - to 35 days, but still only had an 8 day luteal phase. (I was using Clearblue fertility monitor to track cycles)

My doctor told me to go away for another 3 months. he said it may settle down further, but in my heart I knew that whilst my cycle was settling, my Luteal phase wasn't changing, so I set about researching alternative medicine.

I found, and starting taking this

http://www.pukkaherbs.com/file/939c0...vari-plus.html

And to be quite honest it was a little miracle worker for me! My herbalist called it IVF in a bottle for the amount of people in my predicament that he reckoned it had helped get pregnant! My Luteal Phase fairly immediately went to 11 days, and then lengthened further over the next few cycles to 13 days.

I still went back to my doc, and was subsequently referred for fertility testing. Anything that helps Huh? But to cut a long part of the story short, I fell pregnant the cycle before I was due to start Clomid.

My cycle is just normalising this time after Depo, but I'm not taking it as my daughter still gets an occasional breastfeed, but if things go on much longer it will be my next step again.

Anyway, much waffling, but I thought it might help!

Good luck xxx

I've just come off the pill so can't offer advice on that front, but a trip to the Dr can't hurt as it may help put your mind at ease. Good luck hun and i hope it all settles down soon for you.

Lyns, Baby.Love, thanks for your replies!

Before stopping the BCP I went to my GP to ask him for advice and I did tell him I used to have long/irregular cycles before the Pill and he did say to go back and see him after 2/3 months if my cycles hadn't settled down as he would check for hormone imbalances.
I have waited 5 months almost - cause I thought perhaps he meant 2/3 cycles (as most women have 28 day-cycles?), and I also thought I'd check if my luteal phase was still short this time round...
But no matter what I think I will go see him soon. I think if I don't ovulate this week I might call the surgery and see if I can have an appointment next week, if I ovulate I might wait until the cycle ends.

Lyns, that herbal remedy sounds quite interesting. Perhaps I will ask the doc about it when I see him.
thanks!!

I was gonna also add. I have been taking Folic acid since before stopping BCP (my GP said to take it 3 months before TTC), and about a month ago I switched to pre-conception vitamins with Folic acid and omega3 as well. Hasn't really done anything to my cycle, though....

Sadly I've never found Dr's to be that supportive of anything other than conventional medicine, but if somethihg can help me naturally then I'm all for it!

Thanks ! I'm so happy I've found such a nice and supportive community. It also feels great to speak with other women with long cycles - i feel like I cannot talk to friends who have regular 28-day cycles who freak-out when they go over 30 days!

good luck to your girls too!
