Gym will trying to conceive

It's me again, sorry guys!

Just wondering about going to the gym, i mostly do classes, so i get pushed quite hard and don't feel i can whimp out. I mostly do body pump and fit n functional, fit n functional is bascially an hour on a stability ball working ur abs. Could any of this be harming anything, as in an egg trying to implant or an egg already fertilised. I asked my doctor as my is late and he told me not to go for a few weeks till i know for sure. Well i have not been for a week now and getting really pissed off, what should i do?

I'm not sure hun. From what I have read (cos I like to exercise every day also) if it is a level of activity your body is used to, there shouldn't be a problem. Excessive exercising can be an issue with fertility, but we are talking excessive!! Exercise can also be an issue if it is something your body isn't used to ie you are overweight and have taken up running. Personally, I reduced the amount of exercise I was doing from everyday to every other day and have reduced the amount of crunches/ab exercises I do.
Not sure if that helps you much Good Luck though

Hi. I read all sorts of conflicting advice re this and in the end i didn't go to the gym while in the 2ww - crazy I know but I would go for long walks instead of going a bit mad in the gym! was always paranoid that i would be bouncing around so much i would dislodge something.

Found this online, hope it helps

Recently, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists set out guidelines for exercise during pregnancy. The following is a synopsis of those guidelines:

1. Regular exercise (at least three times per week) is preferable to intermittent activity.
2. Vigorous exercise should not be performed when mom-to-be is ill, or during hot, humid weather.
3. Jerky, bouncy motions should be avoided. Exercise on a wooden floor or a tightly carpeted surface.
4. Because of the relaxation of connective tissue, pregnant women should avoid extreme stretching exercises.
5. Vigorous exercise should be preceded by a five-minute warm-up, such as slow walking.
6. Strenuous exercise should be followed by a period of gradually declining activity that includes gentle stretching.
7. Heart rate should be measured at times of peak activity and probably should not exceed a maximum of 150 beats per minute. (There are reports of pregnant, high-level competitive athletes who approached and even exceeded the recommended maximum heart rate without any apparent harmful effects on the fetus, but consult with your care provider if you have concerns.)
8. Care should be taken to rise gradually from the floor to avoid an episode of dizziness (from low blood pressure) related to changes in position. Some form of activity involving the legs should be continued for a brief period.
9. Liquids should be taken liberally before and after exercise to prevent dehydration. If necessary, activity should be interrupted to replenish fluids.
10. Women who have led sedentary lifestyles should begin with physical activity of very low intensity and advance activity levels very gradually.
11. Activity should be stopped and a care provider notified if any unusual symptoms appear.

I did Body Pump all the way through my last TTC time and my first Trimester....just kept the weights vary manageable and didn't try to up them at all.

Best thing to do is discuss with your class leader and they will tell you how to adjust to suit

Also found this on http://www.medicinenet.com/script/ma...ticlekey=54294 :

Member: I am trying to get pregnant at the moment. And I am very active. I run or bike or swim at least five to seven times a week. Are there any exercises that may not be as good or beneficial while you are trying to conceive?

Berk: Good question. In order for pregnancy to occur you need to have enough body fat -- at least 12% -- to store estrogen to support a pregnancy. So while exercise is good, more is not necessarily better, I would recommend that you exercise moderately and avoid strenuous exercise at this time so that your body is functioning in a relatively healthy state. Yoga has been shown to have a significant effect on fertility, so I would include yoga practice at least three times per week in your fitness regime.

Moderator: How do you determine your body fat percentage?

Berk: You would need to go to either a personal trainer or exercise physiologist who will take certain measurements of your body to determine your percent body fat. There are also many sophisticated machines that use water to determine body fat. But without going through extensive testing you probably know if you are underweight or not. If you tend to be underweight and you continue to exercise for long periods of time, you might want to look at your diet, make sure that it is balanced, and cut back on your exercise sessions so that your total exercise time does not exceed one hour per day. But again not knowing your individual situation, I am just making general recommendations. The best person to talk to would be your family physician, who can better determine your nutritional status and whether you need to gain more weight.

Moderator: Would you say that as long as you are menstruating and ovulating regularly, that your exercise has not caused you to be underweight to the point of affecting fertility?

Berk: Yes, if it is regular, that's correct.

.......not that I get obsessive about looking up information
