| Does having been on pill affect fertility? It's funny cos b4 I started TTC, I always thought to myself, 'it'll probably take a while cos was on pill for 12 years, on and off.' But I seem to forget this little mantra I used to tell myself cos if I truly beleived it, I'd be patient now and just assume it'll happen within a year.
You see, it is often said that if you're been on the pill for a while, it can affect your fertility for a few months. In fact, one friend told me her dr said: 'for every year you've been on the pill, that's a month of infertility'. So having been on the pill for 12 years myself, does that mean it'll take me 12 months to conceive?
But searching on the net, it seems that there's no evidence it does affect things.
What have u guys heard? x |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I was on the pill for 8 years and a Dr friend said that she thought that it would take at least 6 months for my body to 'balance out' should I want to start TTC (she doesn't know I actually am ... i just quizzed her on the ins and outs!)
BUT she also said that for everyone it took 6 plus months to balance .. another person came off it and got preggers straight away
As well as all those who miss a pill and get preggers .....
She did mention that straight after coming off it your hormones go loopy and you 'can' be very fertile at the point.
I think that it entirely depends on your body, how the pill effected it (badly in my case for several types of pill)
I certainly wont be going back on the pill that's for sure ... I'm not playing havoc with my hormones again. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Hey Trix
How's things?
i came off the pill 2.5 years ago, maybe my body is still out of whack!!!
My best friend Zita (West) reckons that you are really fertile when you first come off the pill and can fall really quickly - hence people getting PG when they are on the pill and forgot 1 or get sick?!
Maybe i should get on the pill |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I don't care what anybody says, but the pill has totally messed up my hormones! My doc is a man, yet he tells me is doesn't affect womens fertility but HOW WOULD HE KNOW????????? Has he only had 3 periods in the year since coming off the pill? No I don't think so - that's me!!
Sorry if Im ranting but nobody warned me that the pill could do this to my body. And what's worse, my doc won't even help me fix it!!
Phew, feel a bit better now...... |

Maybe i should get on the pill | Things are good, my lovely. Remember to come say hello to my journal, do u have one? Can't see it.
Funny that, cos Zita was my best mate for a while but I lent her to someone else, kinda miss her, she was quite good company!
It did surprise me when I read that you can be at your most fertile the month coming off the pill, if only I knew cos I came off it for 3 months and used protection cos I thought it was best to get it out of your system b4 ttcing!!! x |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I think everyone is different with how the pill affects them....I just wish I was one of the people that stops taking the pill and immediately goes straight into regular cycles (or even better get pregnant straight away!!)
It seems to me that Drs are all to keen to reinforce the idea that you just have to wait for your body to sort itself out but maybe the doctors should make it clear to us before we start the pill that if we decide to start TTC there could be a delay in our bodies ability to allow us to do that. Or maybe I am just huffing because I have been off the pill for 6 months and am still not ovulating! (its laugh or cry )
Another point to consider is the reason why you went on the pill in the first place, for example if you went on the pill to regulate your periods, chances are you will have irregular periods again once you stop taking it.
I wonder if any real study has been done on this? Maybe we should set up our own unnofficial poll on BnB?? Find out how long it took for women to start ovulating (not get pregnant) after stopping the pill???
Anyway, good luck to everyone!! |
