Do I need to start using ov tests on our first try?

Hi all

I have been looking around on ebay (work is quiet!!) and looking at ovulation tests. I know we have not started to ttc yet but want to be prepared.....should we just see how it goes for the first couple of months or would we increase our chances if I start to check exactly when I am ov'ing on our first attempt??
Any opinions?

Thanks

Hi Pumpkin - I don't know a huge amount about it all. But if you wanted to you could get some and keep a diary. Just so you can keep an eye on it all. That way you'll have a better insight to your cycles when the time comes.

When are you going to be TTC??

HTH

Kerry

If you know your cycle length and when you ovulate, you will have a much better chance of having at the right time. June was our first month properly ttc and I bought preseed and got 5 OPK's with it. I used them and got a +ve (I think) around day 12 so bought another lot from ebay this month to pinpoint ovulation. I'm noy charting temps just yet as I felt there was too much too soo, its a whole new world this ttc business!!! Good luck...x.

Hi Pumpkin

I'd recommend joining Fertility Friend & keeping a record of your temps each day, it's not as complicated as you'd imagine & really helps to get a good idea of whats happening with regards to ovulation etc...

OPK's are also a good idea if you're not keen on 'just leaving things to chance' coz they warn you in advance giving you the best chance of timing intercourse - Oooo get me...! Lol 'intercourse'!! Lol

xx

Thanks all.

We are looking to start trying in October this year. We have a big holiday coming up and want to enjoy that (it could be our last for a loooong time!)
but I don't want to waste any time after that!

Hi Pumpkin

I've been TTC a while now but only started charting on fertiltyfriend.com and using OPKs after we'd been trying for 4 months.

I personally would DEFINITELY recommend charting and using OPKs as well as monitoring your CM/CP. I thought i knew when i would ovulate and it turns out i was totally out of whack with the whole TTC for the first 4 months!

I've used the cheapies off Ebay and they work fine - i used babymad and also got a thermometer thrown in. Think it cost me £10 and i got enough for 4 months! Alterntively if you like gadget stuff, the CB digital OPK gives you a smiley face when it detects your surge!!

Good luck! x

I would - and have.

I actually started temping the cycle before to try and get an idea of when I OVd - and then this cycle (first TTC) have used OPKs as well. I will use them for a few months, and if nothing's happenning I think I will just try to relax about the whole thing and stop doing it at that point.

Having said that, I'm sure by then if nothing has happenned I will be a charting fanatic and will keep on charting to take to my gp!!

ANyway - it can't hurt, and god luck when the time comes!!
