Holiday Air Travel

Hiya

Could some one help please?

I may be alittle ahead of myself here...... but OH has booked us a holiday for end of August, and if I'm lucky enough to get a this month (hopefully around the 23rd/24th July), then the holiday would fall when I'd be 5-6 weeks.

Is it safe? Is it a definite no no? Can you cancel holidays and claim on insurance if the Doc says no?

Just another obsessive mad thought in my head

Ok I looked into this as we are off to Greece next week. The holdiay has been planned for 18months (as it is for a wedding). I have been concerned that if I feel pregnant beforehand I could put my LO at risk. I did a lot of research on it and it basically is quite easy to misinterpret. If you google you will see that some don't recommend you fly in the 1st trimester due to exposed levels of radiation. The studies which have been done have been carried out on air stewardess who obviously are in the air a long time and on their feet day in day out. They have to decalre they are pregnant as soon as they find out so they are grounded and given desk roles to ensure their safety. Now to put it into context, you getting on a plane for a few hrs one wk and a few hrs the next, I don't see can be too dangerous??? Also what about all the honeymoon babies you hear about. If I am wrong I will stand corrected, but it is just from the research I did. I am sure a holiday can help if you are still ttc too.... Enjoy your holiday....xxx.

Enjoy your holidays and don't worry you can fly up to 28 weeks for insurance reasons. I think the only reason you wouldn't be able to fly would be because of blood pressure being low I think but you would be in early stages and my friend travelled to dominican republic when she was 6-8 weeks so don't worry at all hun - enjoy!

Good luck on your too I hope you get it this month x

I agree with the others - don't worry and enjoy your holiday. I'm sure the doctor will say the same but if you do get your :BFP: you can always ask. I have a holiday booked at the end of September with OH's family and I'm not worrying (although it was booked 8 months ago and back then I was worrying about whether we should have booked it!)

Yay, great excuse to use this smiley...

Exactly!

If you were to get your it would be advisable to ask for an aisle seat so that you have access to the toilet and keeping a sick bag handy just in case! Apparently seats in the middle of the plane are the least bumpy, over the wings is best. Read all this from some site but can't remember where.

This is also useful... http://www.flighthealth.org/pregnancy.htm

Good luck....x.
