Too early to visit doctors?

Hubby and I have been trying to conceive for 8 months now without much luck. Do you think it is too early to go to the doctors and get checked out for any potential problems or is it just a waste of time and we'll get turned away?
I live in the UK by the way...

Hey sweets,

If you are over 35, I think you can go for advice after 6 months. If you are under, I would leave it a year.

They won't see you until after 12 months, though i have heard it depends on your age. It can take up too 12 months too fall pregnant.

I am 26 and saw the doctor at 6 months - I'm now 8 months and have been referred to a gynae, but that was because I have endometriosis, so my doctor said we should get things rolling quicker for me - she did say usually it's 12 months.

8 months is so totally normal though, so don't worry.

Yep - as said above... docs won't take you seriously unless you've been trying for at least 12 months.

I'd been trying for 9 months when I went to the docs for help (im 33 & worried about biological clock ticking) but he practically laughed at me & said they "wouldn't even think about tests" until at least 12 months had passed.

I then went on to get pregnant but sadly lost my little girl due to premature labour so I'll have to wait 12 months all over again now

Good luck TTC hun xx

It depends. Do you suffer from any pelvic pain or do you have irregular periods? Have you had regular anovulatory cycles?

If you suffer pelvic pain that is abnormal (such as severe, excruciating period pain or cramps that last more than say 7 days in the month) I would go now and see if they will refer you to a gyno. You can explain to them then that you are trying to conceive and they would take that into account when they were checking you out, so to speak.

If you are not suffering any abnormal symptoms then doctor would tell you to come back in four months, I expect.

You can always go speak to them and see what they say. they can do a blood test and see if your are OVing. But as everyone has said it depends on age, family history, other problems etc. good luck xx

It won't hurt to try especially if you have iregular cycles, I went after 9 months as had very irregular cycles was referred to the fertility clinic and was getting bloods done at the GP during the wait to gather more info for the clinic.
