Hello all,

I'm curious about why so many women get into testing for ovulation and calculating it with complex charts online etc. I can't say that all the calculating really does it for me and people have always successfully reproduced without all this technology.

So I was just wondering what drives you to do all this planning and testing? I'm not necessarily saying it's a bad thing or anything, I'm just curious about the why, because I don't get it

Do you think it is part of the excitement of ttc? Or is it a way for you to feel in control? Or something else?

i know where you are coming from coz when we planned to have my first son i was clueless and did't have any idea about ov and temp charting and i got a BFP in the first month,
here i am today and i have read about ov and everything else and i had no luck as yet but fingers crossed

To be honest when we first decided to TTC we thought we would do it without temps, OPK's etc.

Unfortunately I am quite competitive and a perfectionist and after few days decided that if I was gonna do it I wanted to do everything in my power to make it happen first time.

I don't have any patience and will look to do everything in my power to be successful as soon as.

Just realised how much of a control freak i sound

I know what you mean I didn't do anything when we were fist trying I was pregnant straight away but m/c. Since then I have been tempted to try using the charts etc but so far have resisted. I think my OH would think I was mad!

Because we are desperate to get what we want and are trying everything that has been designed to help us.

i tried the relax approach for 3 month with no help and nothing so when my GYN told me you only have a small chance to get PG each month and i should be better off knowing when my fertile window is happening ...as when you are past 30 (i am 33) thing take longer so i may as well be aware and get all the help i need to conceive

I only do temping right now and I do it because I was on bcp for 9 years and its a quick and easy way to monitor whats going on. Also as Miel says, you only have a small window of opportunity each month of actually getting pregnant so anything that helps is a bonus in my eyes. Each to their own though....if it doesn't strike your fancy you don't have to do it but equally if you want to buy every gadget and book on the market then bash on!!

I just think it's addictive to be honest. I am not ttc myself but think I am likely pregnant and came here for advice. Since then I've learned so much about my own body, cycle and been addicted to this forum.

I didn't do any of that stuff for the first few months and tried to guess when I oved so we could bd at around the right time. If we bded every other day as a matter of course it wouldn't be an issue but DH used to do shift work so it all had to be a bit planned.

the first few months showed no results so thought I'd test when I oved and it was nowhere near I thought because of erratic periods after coming off BCP. Started using cbfm as no ov tests worked for me. Have just started temping. To be honest, for me it's a mixture of being a massive perfectionist and also feeling like I have some kind of control in the whole process. This is something I really want, I'm beginning to think people getting accidentally pregnant is an urban myth and I'll do anything in my power to achieve our goal.

yeah I dont do that cause it seems WAY to complex for my small mind haha
