So discharge .. spotting ... flow - sorry this is going to be icky!

I think I need clarification!
What do you term spotting?
Colour/consistancy/quantity (sorry ... did warm you it would be icky)
When does spotting become 'flow'

I have had 'spotting' for about 4 days now .. except on Sunday it got heavier and was very like my usual 'flow' ... but now its almost gone again ...
I though Sunday was CD1 ... it seems my body disagrees!
I usually spot for 24-48 hours before AF (browny pink then goes red and 'flow' takes over) .... but this is heavier (when it appears its a sticky thick creamy consistancy .. sorry TMI )
Ok .. now for the nasty icky bit ... colour ... It's brown, got lighter today but definitely brown not pink or red ...
I'm really confused by this - am I normal?

For me when I am charting....

Spotting-when I wipe and either get bloody/browny hink/creamy discharge or blood but not enough to wear my mooncup or pantyliner.

Discharge-just my usual cm, but if it has blood in I class as spotting.

Flow-when its true blood and Ineed to wear my mooncup/pantyliner.

Sorry if this is tmi but this is my interpretation of it.

To me, full flow is when you get bright red blood or (ew, sorry, tmi) clotty blood. Anything else is spotting really. My Af is strange sometimes cos will get spotting, then NOTHING for a day then full flow, then nothing ... unpredictable sod! x

omg, i read this and its like just what is happening to me! i got browny pinky discharge from ealrly yesterday morning and had cramping on saturday too so just thought its AF but as yet there is no flow, just the same discharge - test came up Negative though so just thinking AF will be here properly in full force any time now!

yeah they say spotting is just that, spotting - anything you need to put protection in for is flow.

Ok, so 'flow definitely started on Sunday then ... needed a pant liner/towel thing .. but now its gone? and never went red ....
Maybe my body is saving that for tomorrow

I agree with Emma on her interpretation. I had a weird cycle in May where I had spotting, one day of very light flow and then spotting again and that was it. Had got all excited and tested again after AF but obviously it was negative. My AF seems to have gone very very light, think it's just my body having different types of cycles...

Just joined the site and saw your post - had the same thing over the past few days
all signs looked good (dizzy spells, nausea, cramps, the works!) til Saturday and AF kind of arrived (lighter than usual and a little "different") I had wondered about "spotting" too, but looks like all was wishful thinking.
