Question

Sperm Tests??

Just a quick question!

Re gents having their little swimmers tested - what exactly is involved?

My lovely hubby is embarrassed and nervous about it and said he has seen something online about sending it off to have it assessed???

Anyone know what they do exactly? (other than the whole you know what )

Ta!

Hey you,

I think it varies from county to county but in Bucks, my hubby could do it from home! He got a little pack through the post consisting of instructions, a container and a plastic bag thing. He did the deed then had to drop it at our hospital between 9 and 11 on a Tuesday. SOOOOOO much better that he could do it in the comfort of his own home! he then rang our dr (the hossie send the results to your GP) a few days later and basically, in Bucks, you get told if it's 'satisfactory' or if you need to go see your dr.

It was enough for me to go to my dr and request it. x

My OH is having one - hopefully next week. Basically, same as Trix, he's got a little plastic pot/jar and some instructions!! He just needs to 'produce' the sample at home and then get it to the hospital ideally within an hour, but no longer than 2 hours. He can then call the docs for the results within a few days.

Thanks Trix - hubby is really nervous and we are both at different docs. He said he wants me to go with him to discuss it which means we'll have to have 2 visits and go to his and mine. I said to him just go and ask your doc for it and i'm sure they'll do it.

I'm guessing the only tests they will do is that and the progesterone test to start????

Can't remember if i told you but my friends said that their baby was a total ANGEL on the trip to the Seychelles and he didn't play up once!

I guess i was wondering what the deal was with this internet analysis - i think all the swimmers would be dead by the time they got it!!! maybe i should see if bupa does it - he'd probably pay to save his embarrassment! ha ha ha

At our hosp they sample has to be there no longer than 90 mins after production and must be tucked in your waistband to keep it at body temp.

As we live too far away to do it at home and get there in time, we have to book a room at the hospital. First time I left hubby to it as we planned, went out the w*nkroom ( as we affectionately called it!) and just stopped someone from going in, a cleaner ffs!

the last time due to my work hubby had to go alone, and again someone went in, but they actually unlocked door ( with blooming notice on!) and walked in.

Needless to say there was less than half the semen than first SA and result was a little lower.

My advice - if you possibly can - do it at home!!

Yes, sorry, I did read about that. We're not gonna take a break from trying now (not sure if you saw my post?) so if I get PG in the next 2 months, might be a possiblity we'll be taking a littleon with us. If I get PG after, then I won't be going. Who knows? x

Thanks guys - we live only 20mins drive from the local hospital either way as we are basically close to Epsom and Kingston so my lovely hubby could basically w*nk and drive... bit like wash and go perhaps???

Trix - excellent news good for you! it's funny, when you first start TTC the thought of missing a month is not great but you could cope - over 6 months later and the sacrifice isn't worth it cos you start to wonder if this could be THE month eh?

This month i have sacrified wine, running and stress... he he... long hot soaks in the bath.... next month, sod it!
